A popular destination on the Adriatic coast is introducing, from this summer season, new beach regulations in an attempt to improve the experience of tourists, but also the protection of the environment.
It is about the beaches of Rimini, which entered starting from May 16 and until September 20, under a firm rule: a complete ban on smoking, including electronic cigarettes.
The measure applies to the entire surface of the beach, not just the shore area, and targets all spaces frequented by tourists – from sunbeds and umbrellas, to children’s play areas and serving areas.
The only exceptions are the specially arranged and marked areas, especially near the bars in the beach complexes, where smoking will be allowed, according to Blic.
Local authorities justify the decision by the need to reduce exposure to cigarette smoke, especially among children and families, but also by the significant environmental impact.
Cigarette butts are considered one of the biggest sources of coastal pollution, having harmful effects on the marine ecosystem, often being ingested by marine animals or birds.
In addition to restrictions on smoking, the new regulation also introduces measures dedicated to pets. Dogs will have access to the sea only in well-established time intervals: in the morning between 06:00 and 08:30, respectively in the evening between 18:40 and 21:00.
The package of rules also aims to reduce plastic consumption, single-use plastic being completely banned, with the exception of paper products or biodegradable materials. At the same time, it is allowed to deliver food directly to the beach, including to the sunbed.
With these measures, Rimini joins other destinations on the Italian coast, such as Puglia, Lazio and Sardinia, which have already introduced similar restrictions.
Beaches with fine sand, sought after by tourists from all over the world
The beaches of Rimini are among the most famous on the Adriatic coast, appreciated for their fine sand, smooth entrance to the sea and the very good organization of the coastal areas. The coast stretches for about 15 kilometers. Most beaches are arranged and operate privately, offering for a fee sunbeds, umbrellas, swimming pools, but also various sports and relaxation facilities.
From a tourist point of view, Rimini is divided into several beach areas, each with its own specifics. Marina Centro represents the heart of the resort, being the liveliest area, with a high density of hotels, restaurants and bars, frequented by tourists from all over the world.
Just a few kilometers north is Rivabella, a quieter area favored by those looking for relaxation and a calmer pace. Also, Viserba and Viserbella are considered ideal for families with children, thanks to calmer waters and natural rock barriers that reduce the intensity of the waves.
In the south, the areas of Miramare, Rivazzurra and Marebello are more dynamic and lively, attracting tourists who prefer fun and activities on the beach, including inflatable water parks located on the sea.
