The two representative federations in pre-university education are preparing for a mega-protest. 20,000 people should arrive in Bucharest on June 17 to voice their grievances.
The Federation of Education Unions “Spiru Haret” and the Federation of Free Education Unions are mobilizing their members for new protest demonstrations. The leaders told union members that a “firm and united response” was needed or their rights would be affected again.
“We call on all of you to join a massive protest action, in Bucharest, on June 17, 2026. We have an assumed objective, absolutely necessary so that we cannot be ignored: the presence of at least 20,000 participants”is the call of the national leaders, who are asking their members to sign up on the participation lists. The lists should reach the county leaders in good time so that the trip can be organized.
“Iwe are in the streets because we do not accept that education is transformed, once again, into a sector of sacrifice”, its leaders also mobilize the members in the country.
The new draft of the Law on budgetary salaries is at the top of the list of grievances. With this project, the governors have broken their promises to end the strike in 2023, unionists say.
Through the new provisions, there will be a decrease in real incomes, they also point out. The continued neglect of administrative sector employees is another major grievance.
Unions remind again of Law 141 of 2025 which made Education the first sector sacrificed to make savings on the budget, by increasing the didactic standard, halving the hourly rate and overcrowding classes
The mobilization document sent to the territory also states that the proposed action is not “a simple trade union rally”., but “an action to save Romanian education from collapse”.
“Leave the fear, leave the excuses! It’s time to reclaim our stolen dignity!” ends the call to teachers.
At the last referendum organized for the consultation of the members, the teachers rejected the strike, many blaming the duplicitous attitude of the leaders at the center, who in 2023 decided to end the strike without consulting them, and reasoning, on the other hand, that with such low incomes, the strike period also affects their seniority.
