The announcement was made by officials from the Ministry of Transport, who claim that the projects were contracted recently, being assigned to associations of builders from Romania and Spain.

After the completion of the design phase, estimated at 10 months, the authorities estimate that the actual work could start in the summer of 2027.

“Today we issued the design start order for 45 kilometers of the A8 with SAFE funding. They are two sections of high technical complexity, with numerous works of art, bridges, passages and tunnels, and after the 10 months allocated to the design stage, the actual works will start in June 2027, in the favorable construction season”said the general director of CNIR, Gabriel Budescu.

And the state secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure (MTI), Horaţiu Cosma, emphasized the importance of starting this stage, stating that “The Union Highway is moving forward,” with the issuance of the design start order for sections 1 and 3.

The first targeted section, Moțca – Târgu Frumos, is 27 kilometers long and involves the construction of 36 bridges and passages, four tunnels and three road junctions, at the Moțca, Pașcani and Târgu Frumos points. In order to ensure the connection with the Leghin – Târgu Neamț section of the A8 and the A7 Motorway (Bacău – Pașcani), a 5.5 kilometer segment will be built as a priority, with a maximum execution period of 12 months.

The second section, Lețcani – DN24 (Iasi), is almost 18 kilometers long and includes 18 passages, six tunnels and two road junctions, at the intersection with DJ 282 and DN24.

For the other two sections of the Moțca – Iași – Ungheni sector (lots 2 and 4), the authorities are waiting for the completion of the procedures at the National Complaints Resolution Council (CNSC), so that contracts can be signed for them as well.

The project remains a strategic one for Moldova and for the national road infrastructure, being considered essential for connecting the historical regions of Romania, claim MT officials.

“Step by step, kilometer by kilometer, Autostrada Unirii A8 is taking shape. A strategic project for Moldova and for all of Romania, which brings communities closer together, creates opportunities and better connects the historical provinces of the country. Autostrada Unirii is no longer just a project on paper. It is becoming, every day, a reality closer to millions of Romanians”. emphasized Horațiu Cosma.
