President Nicușor Dan will hold a press statement at the Cotroceni Palace on Sunday, June 14, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. The public appearance of the head of state takes place on the same day that Eugen Tomac, the designated prime minister, is expected to submit the government program to Parliament.
The truth broadcasts live text of the president’s statements.
Tomac presented his governing program on Saturday, in which he placed the administrative-territorial reform as the main objective of the future Executive, in case he obtains the Parliament’s vote.
According to the document published on Saturday, the administrative-territorial reform represents “precondition” for the operation of the other chapters, according to the document proposed by Prime Minister-designate Eugen Tomac.
“All the governments in recent years have announced that they will carry out this territorial-administrative reform. It needs a political consensus and we will go and discuss with all political formations, with PNL, PSD, UDMR, because we can no longer live according to the Romania penciled in from the time of Ceaușescu”declared the designated prime minister on Antena 3.
Eugen Tomac assured that the communes and cities will not disappear, but he emphasized that “we must have the courage to make this reform”.
“A government that does not have behind it political responsibilities in the relationship with local elected officials can come up with a bold plan for administrative-territorial reform, a reform necessary for Romania to be able to access the resources provided by the European Union much more efficiently and obviously for these communities to be much more attractive. And for this we need this debate, including the merging of some localities voluntarily”added the prime minister-designate.
