“The meeting of the National Political Bureau has just ended, together with the deputies and PNL senators, mayors and CJ presidents, after which I expressed my point of view. I want to be very clear: I am not submitting my mandate as prime minister-designate. I accepted this responsibility in good faith and I will move forward with the entrusted mandate, because Romania urgently needs stability and a functional government”Adrian Vestea sent on his Facebook page.

He stated that he accepted the mandate of prime minister-designate “for Romania, not against PNL and not against Ilie Bolojan”.

“That is precisely why I cannot agree with the presentation of this designation as a “hostile act” or an attempt to break the party. I have not built anything against my colleagues and I am not looking for an internal confrontation. Minority government? This is not the time for such a thing. I have responded to a responsibility at a time when the country urgently needs stability and a functioning government”added Adrian Vestea.

He concluded: “Parties and leaders can sometimes be in different positions. However, Romania’s interest must remain above any political tension”.

The claims come after the BPN of the PNL voted against supporting the Vestea government with 41 votes for, 13 against and two abstentions.

Also in the same meeting, a decision was adopted according to which parliamentarians who do not respect the decision taken by the PNL will be excluded from the party. Likewise, any PNL member who accepts the position of minister or prime minister without being mandated by the party will be excluded. The decision was adopted with 39 votes for, 8 against and 5 abstentions.

“The PNL asked Mr. Vestea to submit his mandate by tomorrow, the PNL parliamentarians were mandated to proceed according to the “I don’t vote” formula until the next meeting, and the parliamentarians or those who could be proposed without the support of the PNL will lose their membership”declared PNL president Ilie Bolojan after Monday’s meeting.
