The president of the Forța Dreptei (FD) formation, Ludovic Orban, said on Friday, June 19, that President Nicușor Dan has appointed a candidate for the position of prime minister from the PNL “to give you the mission to break” the party.
“In the National Liberal Party, a perfectly normal process is taking place, from my point of view. The President of Romania appointed a candidate for the position of prime minister from the National Liberal Party, without informing and without asking for the support of the National Liberal Party.
Basically, he appointed a candidate who gave him the mission to break the National Liberal Party and get votes from the National Liberal Party parliamentarians, without having absolutely any kind of statutory, democratic, supporting decision”. said the former prime minister, invited to Antena 3 CNN.
Orban adds that he says it is natural for the PNL to organize a congress after the party’s decision not to support the Vestea Government, because the formation is in a new political situation.
“Congress is the one that decides the political direction, the political strategy, the leadership of the party. Because we are in a new political situation. The governing coalition submitted a motion of censure and the new strategic decision to break any kind of collaboration with the PSD, to settle strictly on the center-right position, characteristic and natural for the National Liberal Party.
The adoption of a perspective strategy of coagulation of forces, together with the National Liberal Party from the Center Right Party, needs a refresh, and these decisions must be taken in the most representative forum, which is the Congress”, declared Ludovic Orban.”
Ludovic Orban believes that the current PNL leadership is pushing the party towards an internal split and criticizes the appointment of Adrian Veștea for the position of prime minister without the party’s consent, which he qualifies as an unprecedented situation.
As for the exit from the political crisis, Orban claims that the PSD should be given the first mandate to form the government. He also stated that the future executive needs many more votes than the ones he currently has to pass the Parliament.
On Sunday, June 14, President Nicușor Dan announced that Eugen Tomac submitted his mandate, and Adrian Veștea, first vice-president of the PNL, was appointed prime minister in his place.
Shortly after, the interim prime minister and president of the PNL, Ilie Bolojan, emphasized that the liberals were not consulted beforehand and announced the emergency convening of the National Political Bureau (BPN) to establish the official position of the PNL.
