The leader of PNL Bucharest, Sebastian Burduja, sent a firm message after the failure of the investiture vote of the Veștea government, stating that the liberals are not afraid of early elections, in case a political solution for the formation of a majority will not be identified.
“From time to time and still too rarely, justice is on the side of the fair and worthy. The imposed government gathered only 189 votes, far below the threshold. It was to be expected. If there is no political solution, we are not afraid of anticipated ones”, wrote on Facebook the president of PNL Bucharest, Sebastian Burduja, after the Veștea government was rejected.
Robert Sighiartău: “The government of betrayal has fallen. You cannot build on betrayal and moral corruption”
On the other hand, the general secretary of the PNL, Robert Sighiartău, stated that the current situation represents a major political failure and requested the urgent convening of consultations at the Cotroceni Palace.
“The government of betrayal has fallen. You cannot build on betrayal and moral corruption. There were 48 days lost for Romania and for Romanians, there were 48 days of pressure on the National Liberal Party”, he declared Sighiartău.
At the same time, Sighiartău stated that those who supported the current government formula “no I’m still part of the PNL” and that “the stamp of betrayal will follow him for the rest of his life“.
The government led by Adrian Veștea failed to obtain the investiture vote in the assembled plenary session of the Parliament, held on Monday evening. The executive received 189 “yes” votes, well below the required threshold of 233 votes, while 23 MPs voted against.
Adrian Veștea stated, shortly after the announcement of the result of the vote in the Parliament, that he tried to build a parliamentary majority around a government program, but the approach was not completed successfully.
“Today’s vote was not the one I hoped for Romania. But the vote is sovereign and I respect it. I did not ask for this position for a position, but I accepted it because the country needs stability, not a deadlock. That remains valid regardless of today’s result. 47 days without a government is already costing us too much: European funds, trust, time that we cannot recover. I remain convinced that responsibility must beat any political calculation”. wrote Adrian Vestea on Facebook.
