Zahara, 21, and Maddox, 24, two of actor Brad Pitt’s children, have filed to legally remove the Hollywood star’s last name, citing personal reasons for the change.
It is the latest development in the long-running conflict between Brad Pitt and his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie. The former Hollywood couple has been involved in disputes since their separation, a decade ago, writes CNN.
In documents filed electronically last month in Los Angeles Superior Court, their daughter asked to change her name from Zahara Marley Jolie-Pitt to Zahara Marley Jolie. Her brother, Maddox, also requested the court’s permission in late May to remove “Pitt” from his compound surname.
Under California law, the pair published notices of the name change in the Los Angeles Daily Journal, and if there are no appeals, the court would rule on the requests in September.
CNN reached out to Brad Pitt’s representatives for comment, but was unable to reach Zahara and Maddox.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt married in 2014 and filed for divorce in 2016. The two have six children together: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Knox and Vivienne.
In 2016, Angelina Jolie accused Brad Pitt of physically assaulting her and verbally abusing their children during a private jet flight from France to the United States. The actor was investigated by the FBI, but was not arrested or charged. Shortly after the incident, Jolie filed for divorce.
In 2024, Shiloh filed an application to change her last name, removing her father’s name and to be known as Shiloh Nouvel Jolie.
A week after Shiloh said she wanted to drop the name “Pitt”, a source close to the actor told reporters that the father of six children is “aware of this situation and angry” according to the daughter’s decision.
Also in 2024, their daughter Vivienne used the name Vivienne Jolie in the program of the Tony Award-winning musical The Outsiders, which she co-produced with Angelina Jolie.
