The former Minister of Health, Alexandru Rogobete, reacted after the Sanitas Federation’s decision to suspend the general strike in the public health and social assistance system. He appreciated that the measure represents “a gesture of responsibility towards the patients”, but also a signal that the dialogue between the authorities and unions must materialize in solutions.
Rogobete stated that the health workers were able to make their demands heard and criticized the measures which, in his opinion, would have affected the income of the employees in the system.
“The decision of the trade union organizations in Health, taken this morning, to suspend the general strike is a gesture of responsibility towards patients, but also a clear signal that the dialogue must produce results, not just promises”, conveyed the former minister, in a post published on social networks.
“The voices of the people in Health were heard”
Alexandru Rogobete claimed that the protests highlighted the difficulties faced by medical and auxiliary staff in hospitals.
“The voices of doctors who go on call and leave after dozens of hours. Of nurses who take care of too many patients. Of nurses, stretcher-bearers and all those who keep hospitals standing, day in and day out.” he wrote.
The former minister believes that suspending the protest does not mean solving the problems in the health system, but giving a new chance to negotiations.
Criticism of salary measures
In his message, Rogobete criticized the proposals regarding the remuneration of health personnel, stating that the reduction of incomes and the reduction of allowances cannot be considered reforms.
“We all saw how much injustice was being prepared for people in Health. Reducing income, cutting benefits and directly hitting those who work in the hardest conditions cannot be called reform”said the former minister.
He added that the demands of the medical staff remain legitimate and promised to continue to support the employees of the health system.
“However, the suspension of the protest does not mean that the problems have been solved. It means that we give another chance to dialogue, respect and normality. I will stand with all the people in Health until their work is respected and their rights are defended”. Alexandru Rogobete sent.
The Sanitas Federation announced on Friday the suspension of the general strike, stating that the protest can be resumed if the demands of the trade unionists are not resolved and if a new draft of the Salary Law does not meet the demands of the employees in the system.
