A tourist was filmed while spray-painting a heart and the name “Anna” on a rock on Transfăgărășan. The images, published by the representatives of Salvamont Argeș, were accompanied by a call to respect nature, and the reactions of Internet users did not take long to appear.
The incident happened near the Salvamont Argeș base from Cota 2000.
In the images shared by mountain rescuers, a man draws the tourist’s attention to the fact that he is destroying the natural landscape and that such gestures have no place in the mountains.
In response, he replies: “Do you know how many are here? It’s rock.”
When told that the images will be passed on to the Police, the tourist asks in bewilderment: “Why?”, after which he continues his drawing. At the end, he leaves a heart on the rock inside which write the name “Anna”.
Salvamont: “The mountain does not need our signature”
Salvamont Argeș representatives condemned the gesture and sent a message urging tourists to protect nature.
“Visibly disturbed that something was said to him, he shrugged his shoulders: “It’s a rock”. And continued his “work”, as if nothing had happened. Except that it is not “just a rock”. It is a mountain that we all share, a landscape that thousands of people come to see exactly as nature left it. What for one is a fad for a few minutes, for the mountain it leaves an imprint that does not disappear easily. The mountain does not need of our signature. We need to leave it clean for those who come after us. Let’s be the kind of people who take a stand, not turn their heads.” the rescuers sent.
Wave of reactions online
The Salvamont Argeș post generated hundreds of comments, most of them critical of the tourist.
“Anna, keep your fool at home!”, one user wrote.
“Caveman. These people understand nothing of respect for nature,” another person commented.
Another internet user compared the gesture to vandalizing a car: “On the principle of ‘it’s a rock’, I would have drawn the same heart on the car for this character and I would have said: ‘It’s a car… it’s tin… what does it have?'”
There were also messages addressed to the woman to whom the declaration of love was dedicated. “Anna, I say think about it…I hope it’s your only bad choice”one user wrote.
Netizens are now demanding that the authorities identify and punish the man for destroying the natural landscape.
