The general mayor of the capital, Ciprian Ciucu, defends the interim prime minister Ilie Bolojan, after he was booed and whistled during the speech given at the Navy Day demonstrations in Constanța. Ciucu claims that Bolojan knew that he could be booed, but he chose to participate in the event to represent the Romanian state.
“I read in the press that Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan was booed in Constanța, where he was present on Navy Day. Let me tell you something: he knew he would be booed after the whole horrible campaign against him this year, attacked daily as a person. And he also knew the direction, which is not missing from such events, staged by the opponents of democracy. Shame on them!” wrote Ciprian Ciucu on Facebook.
The Edilul of the Capital states that, despite the possibility of being booed, the prime minister went to Constanța because the presence of a representative of the Romanian state was necessary at a symbolic moment for the country.
“And yet, aware of what will happen, he went to Constanța. But do you know why? Because someone had to be there and represent the Romanian state. It is an important, symbolic moment.” Ciucu sent.
Bolojan, booed during the Navy Day speech
Ilie Bolojan was greeted with boos and whistles when he started his speech at the Romanian Navy Day demonstrations. Among the chants heard from the crowd were “Go to Bucharest” and “Cheer the sailors, Bolojan, home.”
However, the Prime Minister continued his speech and spoke about the importance of the Romanian Naval Forces, in the context of the security situation in the region.
“Dear Romanians, I am here as a sign of respect for the Romanian Navy. At a time when security on the eastern border is no longer a fait accompli, at a time when safe navigation through the Black Sea is a daily stake and not a certainty, the equipment available to our Naval Forces, their courage and professionalism matter more than ever”. declared Ilie Bolojan.
The Prime Minister also emphasized the role of the Romanian Navy in defending the security of the country, in the context of the war in Ukraine and the tensions in the Black Sea region.
In his message, Ciprian Ciucu claims that Bolojan has no reason to be ashamed of the decisions made and that he assumed a “sacrificial mission”.
