Madonna chose the island of Corfu as her main destination to celebrate her 68th birthday on Sunday, August 16. The artist arrived on a private plane and has private access to the sea and an exclusive port.
According to Greek Reporter, the pop star, dressed all in white, took a private helicopter to Meteora. The visit, organized through a local agency, gave the artist the opportunity to take a private tour of the Varlaam Monastery.
Perched atop an imposing sandstone pillar in central Greece, Saint Varlaam Monastery, also known as All Saints Monastery, is the second largest active monastic complex in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Meteora.
The monastery is named after the hermit Varlaam, who first settled on the steep cliff around 1350, while the current monastic community was officially established at the beginning of the 16th century.
During the private visit, Madonna had a lengthy meeting with the monastery’s abbot, Father Benedict, 49, who asked him for spiritual advice and questions about Orthodox traditions.
Afterwards, the artist returned to her secluded retreat in Corfu, where she will celebrate her 68th birthday with family and friends.
