Vishal Garg, who became famous after firing 900 employees in one sitting on Zoom, was also fired from the company he founded. But the former CEO of Better Homes & Finance is contesting the decision, has hired a lawyer and is asking to be reinstated. Moreover, he offered to run the company for a symbolic salary of one dollar a year until it reaches a profit, reports The Independent.
He was replaced at the head of the company
Vishal Garg was removed as chief executive on August 3 and temporarily replaced by Daniel Lewis, an investor with experience in managing investment funds. The change came just a week after Lewis joined the company’s board, according to The Independent.
The former CEO alleges that Lewis misled him to get a seat on the board and then convinced the other members to vote for his removal.
Garg doesn’t seem willing to accept the decision. He has hired a lawyer, is asking to return to running the company and says he is prepared to work for a dollar a year until Better is profitable.
The change at the top of the company was also followed by a strong reaction in the stock market. Shares in the digital mortgage firm fell 45% as Garg claimed the business was approaching profitability.

Vishal Garg’s name went around the world in 2021 after a Zoom firing. About 900 employees learned during the same video conference that they were losing their jobs.
The timing sparked a wave of criticism at the time, including the way Garg communicated the decision to people ahead of the winter holidays. The recording of the meeting quickly made its way onto the Internet, and the case became one of the most famous examples of a dismissal done via video conference.
Five years later, the tide turned against the founder of Better Homes & Finance. This time it’s Garg who is challenging the way he lost his position and is trying to get back in charge of the company.
