Artist Ariana Grande criticized US President Donald Trump on Thursday, August 20, after his team used one of the artist’s songs in a video published on TikTok, in which he sent a message against transgender people.
“My truth and I remain silent… Men cannot have children and should never compete in women’s sports,” is the message in the video published on the official account of the US president.
The song used is “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love)”released in 2024.
“Don’t ever use my music again. Also your truth is fake,” commented the star.
Her comment was later deleted, which was pointed out by several users who posted screenshots of her message.
Other Artists Who Confronted Trump Over Use of Tracks
And Taylor Swift’s songs have been used in the US President’s videos. Some of the artist’s pieces were later removed from the materials published on social networks by Donald Trump’s team and the White House.
Swift hasn’t spoken out about Trump recently, although in 2024 she endorsed his Democratic rival, then-Vice President Kamala Harris.
Trump has repeatedly criticized the singer. After she expressed her support for Harris, Donald Trump wrote, in a furious message on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT”.
In another message, Trump reiterated his feelings towards the famous singer: “Has anyone noticed that since I said “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT” she’s not “SEXY” anymore?”
Dozens of artists, including Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande, have asked the Trump administration not to use their songs.
In turn, the band Radiohead asked the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, to remove a video in which they used the famous song “Let Down”, writes Variety.
A Radiohead spokesperson said that “it goes without saying that this was done without the band’s permission” and relayed the band’s statement:
“We’re asking the amateurs who run ICE’s social media account to take it down. It’s not funny, this track means a lot to us and other people and you have no right to use it without us fighting against it. Also, fuck you… Radiohead,” the band relayed.
A choral version of “Let Down” was used in an ICE video featuring victims of violence the agency attributed to illegal immigrants. The material claims that they have “raped and killed” American citizens.
