Ivanov Briana Mihaela is 23 years old and is a volunteer of the Galati Fire Department, being involved and eager to help those in need. For three years he enrolled in the “Salvator din pasiune” program, and so far he has 500 hours and 150 first aid interventions.

From her experience on the SMURD ambulance, Briana stopped a road accident outside the city of Galati, in which several children were affected.
“People were agitated and concerned for their safety and the safety of others involved in the accident. First aid crews were struggling to stabilize the victims and manage the situation as efficiently as possible. I was tested by very strong emotions, but since then I have learned what it means to work in a team, to keep calm and to control oneself in a borderline situation”says Briana.
When asked what a week of training looks like for her, Briana says that ambulance shifts have become a passion and help her look ahead to her future as an emergency physician.
“I think the sustained effort of the long years of college, with grueling exams and residency, would rob me of my eagerness to be a doctor if I didn't volunteer. I see the future more easily, helping every day”, supports the young woman.

Briana attends the Faculty of Medicine and confesses that “volunteering has taught her what responsibility means, and she feels that being a doctor would give her greater freedom of decision and understanding of the problems that patients have.”
Briana also talked about the main qualities that she believes she acquired in the ambulance, which can help her later in the medical profession.
“I used to get very consumed by seeing the suffering of some victims. The volunteer work helped me to be more in control of my emotions and to see more clearly what patients need during medical cases, to be prepared for correct decisions in critical situations”, Briana claims.

Last but not least, Briana talked about the main qualities that can be learned from working in emergency situations.
“There are so many ways to be brave in this world. Sometimes courage involves giving your life for something bigger than yourself or someone else. Sometimes it involves giving up everything you've ever known, or everyone you've ever loved, for the sake of something greater.” says the young woman.
Briana's story was made public by captain Dan Ionașcu, from ISU Galati.
“Congratulations, Briana! You prove that no obstacle is too big or dream too bold when you follow your dreams with passion and courage.” sent the representatives of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations on Facebook.
