The Mayor of the Capital, Nicusor Dan, declared on Thursday that he does not rule out a withdrawal from the competition for the Capital City Hall of Cristian Popescu Piedone, mentioning that he and Cătălin Cîrstoiu will be supported by the left electorate.

“It is an electoral choice between a right-wing public and a left-wing public – PSD. We will see how this pool left – PSD, will be divided between these two candidates, because one has just entered and we will see how they are divided. I don't have a prediction at this moment about how it will be. (…) I reserve his candidacy (of Cristian Popescu Piedone, no) and do not even exclude a withdrawal from the competition. (…) Elections in a round polarize.
Just as the right-wing voters go to the right-wing candidate with the best chances, so in the other pool we will see which of the two candidates will seem more certain of victory and then the voters will go there, in the majority. I think that will happen”, said Nicusor Dan, for B1 TV, according to Agerpres.
He opined that the mayor of Sector 5, Cristian Popescu Piedone, is far from being an “anti-system” candidate.
“His son has been a PSD deputy for three or four years now. (…) He has a majority with PSD in the District 5 Local Council. What more can I say? He is a candidate with some image, but far from being anti-system. Far… On the contrary, it is the embodiment of a way of being in the system“, added Nicusor Dan.
On the other hand, the general mayor claimed that if he wins a new mandate as mayor of the Capital, even if the parties that support him will not hold the majority in the General Council, he will find “a way of dividing the attributions“, so that “ppass the time” with conflicts.
“The mayor is the main authorizing officer of credits. He signs every payment. The council only makes the budget at the beginning of the year. The Mayor has many levers in relation to the General Council. What happens is that – and I'm not talking about the future, I'm talking about the past – a majority is formed next to the mayor.
This happened in 99.5% of cases, throughout Romania. (…) We will find a formula for dividing the attributions. Of course, there is an alliance and a party that support me: USR, PMP, Forţa Dreptei and REPER. Building the majority will start with the parties that support me now. But we will find a form so that there is a majority and we don't waste a lot of time with conflicts, like these two weeks (in which the Capital's budget was not adopted, no), when we could do better things for Bucharest“, he also said.
At the same time, the general mayor drew attention to the fact that there are still two weeks in which those who want to vote in the local elections, but do not have a ballot in a certain locality, can get their floating visa.
“There are still two weeks in which they can get their floating visa. If they live in Bucharest but do not have a Bucharest card or their floating visa expires, the law says that in order to vote, you must have a floating visa at least 60 days before the time of voting. (…) The deadline, so that you already have it in the bulletin (floating visa, no) is April 5“, said Nicusor Dan.
