For the students who will be admitted to high school this summer, there are only five days of school left from the 8th grade. The courses for them end on June 12, and from June 22 the tests for the 2026 National Assessment exam begin.

The exam is important because depending on the results obtained, the hierarchy of the students will be established, and the admission average will be the criterion for the allocation of places at the high school. For students who opt for a vocational high school (for this they had to take aptitude tests, during May 2026) the average from the National Assessment will be used to establish the admission average, the admission process to vocational high schools taking place before the first stage of computerized assignment, so that students declared “Rejected” at the vocational high school can participate in the computerized assignment.

What is computerized assignment and why is it important to have enough options in the card

Computerized high school placement is the national algorithm that places high school graduates into ninth grade. In this process, the admission average and the options filled in by the students in the registration form are particularly important.

In Bucharest, where the high competition means that the difference between accepted and rejected students is only a few hundredths, only completing a sufficient number of options on the admission form ensures admission in the first stage. According to the registration form in the brochure posted on the website of the School Inspectorate of the Municipality of Bucharest, there are spaces for 546 options to be filled.

How the allocation is made

Students are placed in a unique list, from the highest average to the lowest. The algorithm checks the first student in the list and assigns him to the first option on the card where there are free places. Then move on to the next student, repeating the process. When a major/class is fully occupied, the last admitted student has the “admission average” of that class. Subsequent candidates who put that option will move on to the next option on their sheet. The computer checks the choices in the exact order they were written on the sheet, and once a student has entered a major (because the average allowed them), all the choices below that on their sheet are automatically canceled.

It should be noted that you are not at a disadvantage if you have an average that you can consider low and pass, however, on the report card, among the first options, a specialization from a top high school as the first option. If the average is not high enough, the algorithm will simply go to the second option.

This is why high school admission averages from previous years are useful to get an idea of what average you should get in order to be assigned a place at one high school or another, but they should not change your choice and cause you not to pass a specialization that you would like among your first choices.

Candidates are warned that for profiles, specializations or fields of training where teaching is done in a language of a national minority, they can enter the respective code in the option sheet only if they have attended secondary school courses in the respective mother tongue or if they have taken and passed the test to verify knowledge of the mother tongue. Otherwise, the option will be canceled at the time of computerized distribution.

The same should be done in the case of specializations where the teaching of a modern language is done in a bilingual mode. Thus, only candidates who have taken and passed the knowledge verification test for the respective modern language and have the grade obtained for this test, according to the provisions of the Admission Methodology, can enter the respective code in the option sheet. Otherwise, that option will be canceled at the time of computerized distribution.

“Not all kids need to be pushed into college.” Harsh criticism of the Education system: “Romania is arrogant”

Another important mention is that on each candidate’s admission form there can be marks in at most two different native languages under the heading “mark obtained in the native language and literature in the national assessment” (one of them possibly being the native language in which the subjects were studied at gymnasium).

Candidates can participate in the computerized distribution in only one county

For the computerized admission – stage I, candidates can participate in the computerized distribution in a single county.

Registration of candidates for admission is done by completing the registration forms.

Only students who have taken the National Assessment participate in the computerized distribution made in the first stage of admission.

The completion of the options takes place between July 13 and 20, 2026, by the eighth grade graduates who took the National Assessment and by their parents, assisted by the eighth grade leaders, at the graduated educational unit.

After completing and entering the data from the forms into the computerized database (this operation will be done according to the planning established by the commission in the educational unit), parents and students have to verify the correctness of the data from the list listed for each student by the parents and students, in the presence of the directors.
