The exhibition offers visitors a foray into the life and art of one of the most emblematic figures of the Romanian monarchy. Maria of Romania remained in history not only for her heroic deeds during the Great War, but also for the artistic side of her being, manifested since childhood and youth.

In 1916, the Association “Women Painters and Sculptors” appeared in Bucharest, founded by the artists Cecilia Cuţescu-Storck, Olga Greceanu and Nina Arbore, which will be supported by Queen Maria. This distinct chapter of the exhibition presents works signed by the great Romanian artists: Olga Greceanu, Lucia Dem. Bălăcescu, Irina Codreanu, Micaela Eleutheriade, Margareta Sterian, Ligia Macovei, Rodica Maniu (Mützner), Nina Arbore, Milița Petrașcu, Lucia Beller, Magdalena Rădulescu, Lola Schmierer Roth and many others.

The extensive two-chapter exhibition brings together paintings, sculptures, spectacular decorative pieces, unique furniture and photographs. The Maria of Romania, Queen and Artist chapter is curated by Dr. Narcis Dorin Ioan and created in partnership with the Peleș National Museum, the Brukenthal National Museum and the “Regina Maria” Municipal Museum, Iași. The Women Painters and Sculptors chapter is curated by Alexandra Ilniţchi-Ardelean. Exhibition design by Diana Nicolaie, artist and designer.

Strong, ambitious, convinced feminist, mother, sister and wife, hardworking and eager to show everyone that women’s place is alongside men, not behind them – this is how Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck (1879-1969) could be described in a few words ), the first female art teacher in Europe.

The concern for mural painting left its mark on his own house, today a superb museum – the “Frederic Storck and Cecilia Cuțescu-Storck” Art Museum, part of the Bucharest City Museum. The decoration of the house ensured him several important commissions: “History of Romanian trade” for the Aula Magna of the Academy of Economic Studies in Bucharest, in 1933; “Apology of Romanian arts” for the ceiling of the Throne Room in the Royal Palace – the current National Art Museum of Romania; They can still be admired today.

The exhibition presents the work created by the artist with intense artistic activity, rewarded with numerous awards and distinctions. The curator of the exhibition made in partnership with the Bucharest City Museum is Drd. Ana Maria Măciucă-Pufu, museographer – Art Gallery of the Bucharest City Museum. The scenography is made by Cosmin Florea.
