The Ministry of Education has published the scales and topics of the written exam in the Romanian language, of the 2026 Baccalaureate exam.
The Romanian Language and Literature exam is structured in three subjects, each with a distinct score. Topic I is worth 50 points and includes the supporting text, comprehension requirements and argumentative text. Subject II is marked with 10 points, and Subject III with 30 points, the essays being the most complex tasks. The grades obtained, calculated by dividing the total score by 10, are essential for the Baccalaureate average, which must be at least 6, provided that each written test is passed with a minimum grade of 5.

In the first topic, the students had to work with a text extracted from the book “The soul does not know distances. Correspondence pages with the Pillat family”, signed by Pia Pillat. Part A of the subject included requirements for understanding and interpreting the passage, and in part B, candidates were asked to write an argumentative text of at least 150 words. They had to express their opinion on the statement that preparing for an exam requires giving up their favorite activities or not. The exercise tested both the ability to build a coherent speech and the ability to support a point of view through arguments.

In Subject II, worth 10 points, the students had to write an answer of at least 50 words in which to present the narrative perspective from a fragment signed by Liviu Rebreanu. The requirement assessed knowledge of literary theory and the ability to identify and explain the building blocks of a narrative text. Candidates had to demonstrate that they understand how an epic fragment is constructed, an essential aspect for the analysis of works studied in high school.
The most challenging part of the test, Subject III, worth 30 marks, had distinct requirements depending on the profile. Students in the real profile were given an essay of at least 400 words on the particularities of a studied poetic text, belonging to George Bacovia. Those from the human profile had a similar task, but the chosen author was Tudor Arghezi. According to the information appearing online, it is possible that the poem chosen for Bacovia is “Plumb”, and for Arghezi, “Testament” – both works being frequently studied in high school.

Baccalaureate 2026: Rules for appeals
It is important to specify that the submission of appeals is not conditioned in any way by the prior viewing of the papers, and, to the same extent, the mere viewing of the papers does not oblige the candidate to submit an appeal, but remains at his discretion.
It should also be noted that viewing the papers is strictly informative and does not imply, in any way, their correction, but only gives the candidate the opportunity to see how his paper was evaluated.
When applicants who are minors wish to view the work or works, they must be accompanied by a parent or legal representative, who must be present to validate this action.
Candidates who choose to challenge the initial assessment result must complete, sign and submit or transmit by electronic means a standard declaration, in which they expressly state that they have become aware of the fact that the mark awarded as a result of the resolution of the appeal can be modified, as the case may be, both in the sense of increasing and in the sense of decreasing the initial mark, so that they are fully informed of the possible consequences.
Regarding the final results of the Baccalaureate 2026, their communication, regardless of the stage in which it is done, is done anonymously, by using individual codes that replace the names and surnames of the candidates, and these codes are distributed to the students, based on the receipt signature, from the first written test taken.
Baccalaureate 2026. How difficult were the subjects in Romanian, in fact? The teachers’ verdict after today’s test
In order to make known the grades obtained, before the stage of submission and resolution of appeals, the commissions from the educational units or from the examination centers print a list with the results of the baccalaureate exam, a list that includes more information, namely: the candidate’s code, the educational unit of origin, the county, the promotion to which it belongs, the form of education completed, the specialization, the grades obtained for each written test in part, as well as the general average or mentions such as “passed”, “rejected”, “failed” or “removed from examination” as appropriate so that each candidate can know their status.
The results of the national baccalaureate exam are displayed both on the page specially dedicated to this exam and on the websites of the school inspectorates, and these lists are kept for a period of two years, so that they can be consulted later by those interested.
In order to successfully pass the exam, a high school graduate must simultaneously fulfill several essential conditions, namely: pass all language and digital skills evaluation tests, participate in all written tests and obtain a grade of at least 5 in each of these tests, and in addition, obtain an average of at least 6 in the written tests, the average being calculated as the arithmetic mean of the marks obtained in these tests, in order to be declared “successful”.
