The action has Lise in the center, a young dreamer who lives in a village full of flowers and good cheer. She is in love with Colas, a simple but honest and cheerful boy. But her mother, Madame Simone, has other plans: she wants to increase her with Alain, the son of a rich but left and comic neighbor. Between Alain’s funny attempts to impress him, the cheerful dances in the farm yard and a storm that goes over his head, Lise and Colas find the courage to live. And when the mother discovers how happy they are together, she gives up her plans and gives them the blessing. The end? A general dance full of joy, in which even Alain flight … on his own, with the help of an umbrella!
The pastel scenography, signed by Adriana Urmuzescu, and the music of Ferdinand Hérold, re -organized by John Lanchbery, creates a warm and lively, perfect atmosphere to introduce the young audience into the classical ballet universe.
The director Cătălin Caracaș emphasizes the importance of exposing children to the classic ballet, considering that it “remains a fundamental landmark” for the formation of future spectators.
“Children need to understand, see and taste this area of the classic ballet, because, in the end, they are the future spectators of the lyrical institutions. I believe in the eternal beauty of the classic ballet and in the value it has for the spectators of tomorrow. The subject is a timeless one and that is why he managed to cross generations. Whether it is the mother’s authority, Alain’s maladaptation or Lise and Colas’s innocent love, the spectator recognizes human typologies, meets funny situations and lives his joy in a modern key, but with roots in tradition.”Says Cătălin Caracaș.
The show is part of the varied repertoire of the OCC, a unique cultural institution in the world, which offers shows adapted to the young public under the guidance of Soprana Felicia Filip, general manager of 2014.
