Ilie Bolojan confirmed, on Thursday evening, the name of the person who would enter the race for Bucharest City Hall from the PNL side in the partial local elections on December 7. According to the prime minister, Ciprian Ciucu, the current mayor of Sector 6 and first vice-president of the PNL, is “very likely” the party’s candidate for the Capital.

“There were three tested colleagues, the best ranked was Ciprian Ciucu, the mayor of Sector 6, who will very likely be appointed, next week, the PNL candidate for the General City Hall of the Capital”, said Ilie Bolojan, live on Antena 3 CNN.
Bolojan emphasized the difficulty of the position of general mayor, especially in the context of the structural problems facing Bucharest.
“I think that, after the position of prime minister, the position of mayor of the Capital is among the most difficult. He has some rather big responsibilities in the heating system. Regardless of who wins the Capital City Hall, he will not have an easy life in the years to come.” the prime minister also said.
Why the elections were rushed: “The city needs stability”
Bolojan explained why he insisted that the elections for the Capital City Hall be organized as soon as possible.
“I supported the organization of these elections because, on the one hand, it is in accordance with the spirit of the law, and secondly – it is good for any locality to have a man who has a stable mandate in office. The current interim mayor did a good job, but always a legitimately elected man has a different authority than an interim mayor, who had a very good performance.”
Bolojan also called for a civilized election campaign: “You can run campaigns without swearing like at the tent door, I think people need solutions. No matter who wins… it won’t be an easy mandate. I think Mr. Ciucu’s experience from Sector 6 can be put to the service of the Capital.”
Ciprian Ciucu, for his part, commented on the coalition’s decision that each party should go with its own candidate to Bucharest on December 7.
Prime Minister Bolojan consulted with the party, the President of Romania and the leaders of the coalition. We are mature enough not to attack each other, said Ciucu.
The Liberal stated that in the coalition it was agreed that no party would withdraw its candidate during the campaign, in favor of a candidate.
