Regarding his candidacy, it has been speculated in recent months that he could enjoy the support of President Nicușor Dan, being an old close friend of his and being in the past in the volunteer team of USR, as well as in the team of the current president in the presidential elections.
Connections with the political world
Vlad Gheorghe was elected MEP on the USRPLUS list in the 2020-2024 mandate, filling the seat left vacant by Clotilde Armand, who resigned after winning the District 1 City Hall. He resigned from USR in February 2024, following a scandal in the party. The leadership of the formation denied him access to the Political Committee of the Union, accusing the MEP of having debts to the party. However, he claimed at the time that he was kicked out of the event because he opposed the alliance with the PMP and Forza Dreptei.
He later ran as an independent candidate in the June 9, 2024 elections, but failed to pass the required 3% threshold. He then announced that he would run for a parliamentary seat in the elections of December 1, 2024 and founded the DREPT party. But even his formation did not manage to enter the Romanian Parliament, after obtaining a score of just over one percent, both in the Chamber of Deputies and in the Senate.
However, the position of MEP was not his first connection with the political world. Before, between 2017-2020, he was a legal advisor of the USR at the Chamber of Deputies.
Training and experience
He attended the Law Faculty courses at the Romanian-American University of Bucharest, completed in 2008. In 2017, he also completed a master’s degree at the University of Bucharest, but did not submit his dissertation. He has a FIDIC Basic Certificate from the Romanian Association of Consulting Engineers (2016).
He started his career as a legal assistant at the Center of Excellence for Sustainable Development | RO-CEDD and legal advisor at ACER Consult SRL, between 2010-2011. In 2011 he also held the position of legal advisor at the Romanian Association for Housing, Bucharest (2011), and between 2011 and 2017 he moved to Romair Consulting SRL
wealth
His last declaration of wealth mentioned four lands inherited in 2023, in Prahova, together with his brother, two rural and two agricultural. They also inherited an apartment in Bucharest and a house in Prahova together. Another house in Brussels, bought in 2024, is in his and his wife’s name.
Vlad Gheorghe has a MazdaM5, bought in 2019, and last year he sold an apartment worth 100,000 euros. At the time of submitting the declaration, he had 5 bank accounts, including one of over 90,000 euros and one of over 30,000 lei.
He has a loan worth more than 170,000 euros at a bank in Belgium, due in 2049. He also gave a donation worth 100,000 lei.
As a result of the MEP mandate, he obtained in the last fiscal year 93,863.22 euros and a per diem of 71,569.65 euros.
Chances in the race for the Capital City Hall
The former MEP is not rated as likely in the polls that measure the voting intention of Bucharest residents. In one of the most recent polls, published on October 26 by Avangarde (owned by sociologist Marius Pieleanu), he has only 4%, being in 6th place, while his former party colleague, Cătălin Drula, who has the support of Nicușor Dan, is placed in 3rd place, with a score of 18%.
CURS (owned by former journalist Iosif Buble) published another survey on October 19 in which the MEP was rated with only 3%. At that time the candidates were not yet officially announced.
