Ciucu, serious accusations against the PSD regarding the “breaking” of the PNL: “Everyone knows them. And the press knows them”

In full political conflict, PNL first vice-president Ciprian Ciucu claims that PNL will only leave the government after a no-confidence motion and accuses PSD of trying to force a change of power through internal pressure and negotiations.

In an interview given to Digi24, moderated by Cosmin Prelipceanu, PNL first vice-president Ciprian Ciucu said that the current government will continue to administer the country until it is dismissed by a parliamentary motion.

Ciucu emphasized that the Executive, made up of PNL, USR and UDMR ministers, will maintain its duties even in the scenario of PSD’s withdrawal from the government, according to Mediafax.

The priority, he said, is to maintain stability and continue major projects such as the PNRR and the SAFE program.

“We will run the country until this government is brought down by a motion. Until then we take over the government”said Ciucu.

The PNL-PSD relationship, at a critical point

The liberal leader indicated that a possible motion initiated by the PSD would definitively break the trust between the two parties.

“Trust is hard to win and very easy to lose, and PSD has damaged it for a long time”he said.

Ciucu warned that the PSD’s pressure on the PNL, including the rejection of the prime minister’s proposal, would seriously affect the party’s identity:

“If we give in, we lose our credibility, our dignity and our soul.”

He added that the PNL must remain politically relevant even in opposition, if that is the case, to represent a viable alternative.

He rejects the option of a technocrat prime minister

Asked about the possibility of installing a technocrat prime minister, Ciucu ruled out this option, noting that there was no real discussion in this regard either in the party or with the president Nicușor Dan.

In his opinion, such a prime minister would be vulnerable to political pressure: “If he makes the right decisions for Romania, he will be attacked, as happened with Dacian Cioloș”.

Allegations regarding negotiations between PSD and PNL members

A sensitive point of the discussion was Dan Motreanu’s statement, according to which the PSD would have held discussions with members from within the PNL: “Political crises do not appear out of the blue. PSD had discussions within the National Liberal Party, otherwise they would not have gone this far.”

Ciucu confirmed the existence of these contacts, but refused to provide names.

“We all know who it is. The goal was to overthrow the government led by Ilie Bolojan”he said.

Asked if the PNL leaders, including the prime minister, know the identity of those involved, Ciucu answered: “Everybody knows them. And the press knows them.”

Context

The statements come amid growing tensions in the ruling coalition and speculation of a possible no-confidence motion.

In this context, the PNL conveys that it will continue its mandate until a formal decision by Parliament, but does not rule out going into opposition if political relations become irreconcilable.
