Crin Antonescu, critics of Oana Țoiu: “She is non-existent”. What does he say about the appointment of Oana Gheorghiu

Crin Antonescu launched an attack on Oana Țoiu, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and the current administration led by President Nicușor Dan, criticizing the way in which Romania manages its relationship with the USA.

“It is difficult for me to describe in a few words the situation Romania’s foreign policy is in today. We no longer comment piecemeal on what Mrs. Țoiu says, what Mr. Moșteanu says, what anyone else among the country’s leaders says.

Simply put, it cannot even be qualified as a disaster, it is non-existent. For a while, things were stable in the national conjuncture… in a certain direction, Romania was in a wagon, with a place of its own, it stayed well there. He didn’t issue too many opinions, he didn’t have many ideas, but in the end. He signed the contract and went with that wagon.

The disturbance of the waters in the international landscape, the great changes, the monumental changes, in American politics and administration with the coming to power of Trump are things that were certainly not generated by Romania’s leaders”, said Crin Antonescu at Realitatea PLUS

Next, he talks about how Bolojan’s proposal to appoint Oana Gheorghiu as deputy prime minister is considered inadequate and irresponsible, especially in the context of the relationship with the US and the policy led by the Trump administration.

“At the same time, it is very clear that we like it or we don’t like it, some of us like it or not, here in Romania, today the United States is led by Donald Trump, his team, his administration, and they make the policy that this gentleman, entitled by the American vote, wants.

In relation to this, we end up in situations where…for example, this proposal that was discussed and is being discussed, these days, by Mr. Bolojan…is simply not only inadequate, not only irresponsible, but simply makes you think…what is here?

Especially when it is accompanied, as I have seen, by the speech of USR leaders, parliamentarians, even the Minister of Defense… who is a kind of half Foreign Minister and who is the main dialogue partner in this extraordinary transatlantic relationship...strongly supporting Mrs. Oana Gheorghiu…Ilie Bolojan’s proposal”

Antonescu considers Bolojan’s proposal to appoint Oana Gheorghiu deputy prime minister for electoral purposes

However, Crin Antonescu said about Oana Gheorghiu that, at the NGO level, “probably deserves all the credit, even public gratitude for it. It could be decorated by the president of the country”,

“But from here to proposing as deputy prime minister of the Government of Romania a man who, not that he criticized them, insulted the president and the vice president of the United States of America, and which clearly shows… not only that he insulted them… which very clearly shows political incompatibility with them”.

Therefore, Crin Antonescu declares that Bolojan’s proposal to appoint Oana Gheorghiu deputy prime minister is an image operation with electoral purposes, supported by USR, and should not endanger Romania’s relationship with the USA.

“But putting Romania’s relationship with the United States in jeopardy in this way…for some little electoral nonsense…for a few thousand votes in Romania…seems to me the most irresponsible thing that someone can do.

And after that sure, when we Romanians learn from a Ukrainian newspaper that some Americans are leaving hereafter the problem does not arise, as you have shown. Then it is certain that we, the citizens of Romania, belong to no one. At the head of the country there are people, the president, the prime minister and I speak bitterly about the prime minister, please believe me…he is a man who I thought was capable of much more and much different.

It means that we belong to nobody, it means that these people only have a condition to sign in Brussels, that they see that they are going there”. added Crin Antonescu.
