The earthquake occurred at a depth of 125.7 km, near the following cities: 43 km W of Focsani, 54 km N of Buzau, 72 km E of Sfantu-Gheorghe, 80 km E of Brasov, 89 km NE of Ploiesti, INCDFP says .

We remind you that on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, another weak earthquake occurred in the Vrancea seismic zone, with a magnitude of ml 3.9, at a depth of 140 kilometers.

Five earthquakes in six days

Since the beginning of March, five earthquakes have been recorded in Romania, with magnitudes between 2.5 and 3.9 on the Richter scale. The largest earthquake this year had a magnitude of 4.3 and occurred in Vrancea county, at a depth of 74 km, on January 15, 2024, according to Agerpres.

In 2023, the largest tectonic movement, of magnitude 5.7, took place on February 14, in Gorj County, at a depth of 6.3 km.

Although Romania is considered a country safe from strong earthquakes, the specialists of the National Research and Development Institute for Earth Physics mention that our country has a high seismic potential.
