Road traffic on the Brăila Bridge will be restricted starting Monday, June 15, for repair and maintenance work, announced the National Road Infrastructure Administration Company (CNAIR). During the interventions, traffic will be temporarily diverted to one of the object’s carriageways.
According to CNAIR, traffic will be redirected from Road II (Tulcea – Brăila), in the area of kilometer 7, near the toll station, to Road I (Brăila – Tulcea), in the area of kilometer 3, near the CIC Brăila headquarters. The measure is necessary for the execution of some maintenance work on lane 1 on the 1st carriageway.
The authorities recommend that drivers respect the temporary road signs established in the area and adapt the speed to the traffic conditions during the interventions.
We remember that, about three weeks ago, CNAIR won a lawsuit in Rome against the Italian builder Webuild, worth more than 87 million lei, representing guarantees related to the delays in the construction of the suspension bridge.
“The Italian builder did not manage to block even in the court in Rome the execution by CNAIR of the guarantee for more than 87 million lei, related to the delays recorded in the construction of the suspension bridge in Brăila. We will continue to defend the legitimate interest of Romania in the courts from anywhere”the company said.
The suspension bridge over the Danube in Brăila, one of the largest road infrastructure projects in Romania, was inaugurated on July 6, 2023.
Shortly after the opening, numerous problems appeared with the asphalt, which began to show unevenness. Several times, the asphalt on the bridge broke and was repaired.

In October 2024, the bridge entered the reasphalting process for the fourth time. The builder claimed that he used a new recipe of bituminous mixtures, adapted to the specifics of the suspension bridge. Thus, the official reception of the works was completed only in 2025, approximately two years after the inauguration of traffic.
The bridge over the Danube in Brăila, the largest suspension bridge built in Romania, the third in size in Europe and the last bridge over the Danube before it flows into the Black Sea, was inaugurated a year ago, on July 6, 2023, but was affected by several problems with the asphalt surface.
The bridge is approximately 2 kilometers long and offers drivers an alternative, apart from crossing the Danube by ferry, to reach the coast. It is also integrated into the European road network E87, ensuring an essential link between Moldova, Muntenia and Dobrogea
The initial value of the contract was approximately 1.996 billion lei (without VAT), the financing being provided from non-refundable external funds.
