The wife of footballer Héctor Bello died while protecting her daughter during the two powerful earthquakes that hit Venezuela. The athlete announced the tragedy on Instagram, where he reported how the young mother gave her life to save her child.
“I will tell her the story of how you saved her, my love—how you gave your own life for our daughter, how you were a brave woman who did not abandon her even in your last moments.” Bello wrote in his message, according to the BBC.
Her daughter and aunt are in the hospital
In a series of posts, Bello announced that he had arrived in Caracas, where his daughter is hospitalized.
“My daughter and her aunt are fine, they will not be discharged today – they remain in hospital. Thank you all for your support in this immense pain“, he wrote on Friday night.
In another post, the footballer sent a heartbreaking message:
“How do I explain to your daughter that you lost your life to save hers and I wasn’t there to do anything? How do I explain? Give me strength now.”
The sports organization Cumaná de Campeones also confirmed the woman’s death:
“We regret to announce that the partner of footballer Héctor Bello ‘Kike’, originally from Cumaná, was found lifeless under the rubble following the earthquake that hit the country. Their daughter survived the collapse of the building where the family lived.“
And the American channel Univision reported on the death of the footballer’s wife.
Twin earthquakes near Caracas on Wednesday have killed at least 920 and injured more than 3,000, and rescue teams are still searching for survivors among the ruins.
