Gabriela Firea loses her seat in the PSD. Daniel Băluța, the new right hand of Marcel Ciolacu

Gabriela Firea has lost yet another important position: that of first vice-president of the Social Democratic Party, and in her place will come the person who coordinated her candidacy for the Capital City Hall.

On Saturday, August 24, the PSD Congress takes place, when both the candidate for the presidential elections and the new leadership will be voted on.

Voting will involve a novelty, it will take place electronically, by scanning a QR code. This updated process means that voting results will be available much faster, within minutes rather than hours.

The PSD candidate for the Capital City Hall, Gabriela Firea, boycotted this congress and did not appear, implicitly refusing to vote.

Gabriela Firea’s reaction was expected, given the fact that the position she occupied in the party, that of first vice-president, was taken from under her nose and offered to Daniel Băluță.

However, Gabrielea Firea will keep her position as head of PSD Bucharest, as well as her position at the European Parliament.

Another change comes for the position of head of the National Council of the PSD, where MEP Mihai Tudose is running for the post held until now by Vasile Dîncu.

In addition, Paul Stănescu will remain secretary general of the Social Democratic Party, being the only candidate for this position.

What Ciolacu’s new team will look like

Marcel Ciolacu proposed two people for the position of first vice-president: Sorin Grindeanu and Daniel Băluță. MEP Mihai Tudose would be president of the National Council of the PSD, and Paul Stănescu would remain, for another mandate, secretary general of the PSD.

The vice-presidents from Ciolacu’s team are: Florin Jianu, for Entrepreneurship, SMEs and the Business Environment, Lia Olguţa Vasilescu, for Labor and Social Protection, Gheorghe Şoldan, for Regional and Local Development, Gabriel Zetea, vice-president for Administration and Infrastructure. Vasile Dîncu, the current president of the National Council, would hold the position of vice president for European Affairs.

Victoria Stoiciu is vice-president for relations with NGOs and social dialogue, Mihnea Costoiu, vice-president for Education, Elisabeta Lipă, vice-president for Sport, Marian Neacșu, vice-president for the Bucharest-Ilfov region, Dumitrița Glica, vice-president for the Center and Corneliu Ştefan, vice-president for South.

Ionuţ Pucheanu, the mayor of Galati, is vice-president for the South-East, and Claudiu Manda, vice-president for the South-West, while Laurenţiu Nistor will be vice-president for the West, in Marcel Ciolacu’s team. Emil Moldovan would be vice-president for the North-West and Dragoş Benea, for the North-East.
