Designer Daniel Mărgărit, an expert accredited by the International Fur Federation (IFF), revealed, exclusively for Click!, that Elena Ceaușescu’s luxury wardrobe was worth over hundreds of thousands of lei (at the time) and evaluated the coats worn by the Ceaușescus on their last day of life.
Elena Ceaușescu loved furs and had a real collection, many of which were brought from the West.
“When I visited their palace, I also saw a series of furs, some were bought, I think from Germany, as they were sorted and caught in some special packages, which were not found in Romania. I think they were worth a total of about 300,000 lei”, revealed Daniel Mărgărit exclusively for Click!
“On the day of their death, they were wearing clothes worth 80,000 lei”
According to him, the coats worn by Elena and Nicolae Ceaușescu on December 25, 1989, the day they were tried and executed in a military unit in Târgoviște, were worth as much as an apartment.
“Elena Ceaușescu was dressed in a fur coat, I think it was made of sheared beaver, otherwise, if it was made of something else, it became too heavy. That coat cost around 50,000 lei. And Nicolae Ceaușescu wore a fur coat with astrakhan, his cost around 30,000 lei, if it was of very good quality. But I don’t know if they were bought from the West. Both were worth 80,000 lei, the same as an apartment“, detailed the designer Daniel Mărgărit, for Click!.
However, Elena Ceaușescu also had clothes made at Gospodăria de Partid, based on Popa Nan street.
