The head of state announced on Tuesday that he will start informal consultations with political parties, followed by official consultations for the formation of a new government, and political sources claim that these consultations will begin on Wednesday, May 6.

According to them, Sorin Grindeanu (PSD) and Ilie Bolojan (PNL), as well as Dominic Fritz (USR) and Kelemen Hunor (UDMR) are expected. The discussions will take place at the Cotroceni Palace and will focus on plans for what a new government could look like.

“I will start with informal consultations and when the options crystallize we will do the formal consultations. I understand the expectations of the Romanians related to the functioning of the state and especially corruption. I understand the expectations of the Romanians related to everyday life. And I will take them into account in the discussions with the parties for the formation of a new government. We will have a new government in a reasonable time. I exclude the scenario of early elections. And I emphasize, at the end of these procedures we will have a pro-Western government. Calmly we’ll get through this”Nicușor Dan said on Tuesday.

We remind you that the Government was dismissed with 281 votes, over the required threshold of 233, which led to the entry of the Executive into interim regime.

After the vote on the motion, the National Liberal Party formalized the transition into opposition, through a decision taken on Tuesday evening that puts the full responsibility of the political deadlock on the shoulders of the new majority “de facto” consisting of PSD and AUR.

The document adopted by the statutory forums states that the liberals refuse any negotiation for the formation of a new government with the social democrats, considered partners “unbelievable”and asks those who brought down the Bolojan Cabinet to assume the act of governance without running away from responsibility.

Ilie Bolojan remains interim prime minister for the time being, but his mandate cannot exceed 45 days, according to the Constitution and Law no. 90/2001 on the organization and operation of the Government.

According to the Romanian Constitution, a dismissed cabinet remains in office only with limited powers, managing exclusively the documents necessary for the current functioning of the institutions. During this period, executive prerogatives are significantly reduced, and the Government can no longer adopt emergency ordinances or initiate bills, which means that decisions with structural impact or major reforms are suspended until a new executive is installed.
