Journalist wanted by the police after urging responsible voting: “My family called me scared. I was laughing”

Journalist Ondine Gherguț complained on Facebook that she was wanted by the police on Sunday afternoon, as a result of a published post in which she urged voters to vote responsibly, without nominating any candidate.

“The police at my door on Sunday afternoon! Why? Because on Saturday I would have committed a criminal act because I would have violated the electoral law. How did I violate thethe penal age? By the fact that in the text published on Facebook on Saturday I urged voters to stamp on a candidate of integrity and morally, I urged them to choose responsibly. And how else have I broken the law? By the fact that in the text published on Saturday I asked for voting in two voting rounds!”, reported the journalist on her Facebook page.

Ondine Gherguț told that the police scared her family, even coming with a photo for recognition “as if I were the most dangerous criminal”.

She was not at home at the time, being “through the north of the country”, although he would have liked to vote.

“My folks gave the police my phone number. Then they called me in a panic to let me know that the Police had come to arrest me. I was laughing. I knew exactly what I wrote.” the journalist also said.

She stated that she is waiting to be summoned.

“I’m waiting for the subpoena according to the criminal procedure. And I want the subpoena because then I know what I have to do. Legally, in the letter and spirit of the law! So, the bosses were the ones who considered that I violated the electoral law. I would really like to know their names and what law school they attended. Since when do police chiefs have the job description of intimidating citizens? Since when in Romania, a European country, is freedom of expression not respected? Did these bosses in turn receive orders from their bosses? I am waiting for an answer from the head of the General Inspectorate of the Romanian Police!”, concluded the journalist.
