The former president of the PSD and former prime minister Marcel Ciolacu stated, on Sunday evening, that if the coalition breaks up, it would be best to hold early elections.
The former PSD Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, said on Sunday evening, on Antena 3 CNN, that the current PNL Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan is to blame for the current economic situation in which Romania is, but added that he does not recommend the exit of the Social Democrats from government.
“I don’t rule it out, on the contrary. My opinion is that things are leading to this, to the breaking of the current coalition, but I do not recommend, with all the risks, I do not recommend the breaking of this coalition. I believe that it must be discussed and tried to the end, because a political crisis in Romania will worsen the economic climate even more, which we cannot afford”, declared Marcel Ciolacu.
Asked how he explains to the PSD electorate the fact that the social democrats criticize the Bolojan government, but refuse to leave the government. Ciolacu stated:
“I am not urging anyone to leave the government, not even the PSD. I don’t know if I would have been called to the party to vote, how I would vote. I don’t know, I could see at the time. If any way of dialogue closes, I would vote for leaving the government.”
Marcel Ciolacu added that “there are two different things, between being a politician and being a statesman”.
“If you are a politician, then you learn to run away. If you are a statesman, and you want the best for Romania, then stay and fight”, said the former prime minister and PSD president.
