Marcel Ciolacu’s message on the Independence Day of the Republic of Moldova: “This country’s place is in the European Union”

On Tuesday, the Republic of Moldova celebrates 33 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Independence from the Soviet Union (in 1991). Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu sent, on behalf of the Government of Romania, congratulations to all Moldovans.

“I also congratulated my friend Dorin Recean today and reassured him that Romania will be in the future as well, just like before, in the front line of efforts to consolidate the European path, stability and democratic development of the Republic of Moldova. Our firm, clear, undisputed support for the Republic of Moldova is based on consensus at the level of political actors in Romania and on a lasting affective attachment of the entire Romanian society”Marcel Ciolacu sent in a message posted on the Romanian Government’s Facebook page.

Ciolacu: “We want the same future for the Republic of Moldova”

Marcel Ciolacu reaffirmed Romania’s support for Chisinau’s rapid path towards EU integration.

“We speak the same language, we have the same culture and history, we want the same future for the Republic of Moldova: safe, prosperous, democratic, in the middle of the European family. We will be with the Republic of Moldova, with all its citizens, on the road that will lead to the fulfillment of this ideal. We have full confidence in the Government of the Republic of Moldova, in Prime Minister Dorin Recean, in the determined and courageous effort of the entire administration in Chisinau, aimed at preparing the achievement of this objective“, said Marcel Ciolacu.

The Prime Minister of Romania emphasized that European integration is the only option that can ensure all the citizens of the Republic of Moldova “the chance for a better, safer future, for a dignified and more abundant life”:

The place of the Republic of Moldova is in the European Union. I am convinced that, at the referendum on October 20, 2024, the citizens of the Republic of Moldova will bluntly reaffirm this truth”.
