Mirabela Grădinaru, the partner of President Nicușor Dan, together with State Councilors Ana Maria Geană and Diana Punga, as well as Ambassador Alexandru Muraru, organized a round table in Washington on Thursday with the community of Romanian doctors in the United States specializing in the prevention and treatment of addictions and the protection of children’s health.
The dialogue focused on the experience of doctors in managing the phenomenon of addictions, both substance-related and digital. The participants discussed the importance of prevention, early intervention, multidisciplinary approach and cooperation between health, education and social protection systems to protect children in vulnerable situations.

During the meeting, concrete possibilities for cooperation between Romania and the United States were analyzed, such as exchanges of best practices regarding the prevention and treatment programs carried out in the American centers; the organization of observation internships and a mentoring program for Romanian doctors within multidisciplinary teams from the USA; establishing a regular format of dialogue between doctors to update methods of prevention and treatment among children and adolescents in line with the latest developments in research and lifting the barriers of equivalence of diplomas to facilitate the transfer of knowledge and the return to Romania of doctors who wish to return to the country”it is stated in the official press release of the Presidential Administration.

Romanian doctors in the USA expressed their willingness to support Romania with their expertise and to contribute to the development of public policies based on the lessons learned from the American experience.
“Furthermore, they emphasized that they have a lot of respect for the expertise of doctors in Romania, but that it is important to understand that the answer cannot be only medical. We need education, the involvement of families, the responsibility of digital platforms and public policies that protect, not just react“, said the quoted source.
The meeting confirmed that the prevention of addictions among children must be treated as a priority, at the intersection of health, education and social policies, and international cooperation can contribute decisively to the development of sustainable solutions in this field.
