Nicki Minaj Boycott Video: How Singer Lost Fans Over Trump Support

Popular rapper Nicki Minaj has sparked controversy among her fans after expressing her increasingly visible support for President Donald Trump and making controversial statements about gender and minorities. On social media, many of his admirers have launched calls for a boycott of his music.

The latest episode took place on December 21 at AmericaFest, an annual gathering of ultra-conservative youth in Phoenix, Arizona, organized by Turning Point USA, which is close to the movement of far-right activist Charlie Kirk. Nicki Minaj, 43, has consistently praised President Trump in front of a MAGA crowd, describing him as “seductive and irresistible“.

I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president. Donald Trump and JD Vance, I appreciate them both. They are both strong, intelligent and powerful people“, said the artist, according to News.ro.

Along with these compliments, Nicki Minaj also made controversial statements about gender, saying: “Boys will be boys and there’s nothing wrong with that”in the applause of the audience.

Harsh reactions from fans

This position represented a break from the image of an ally of the LGBT+ community and a feminist that Nicki Minaj had cultivated over the years. His regular audience, made up mostly of young progressives, queer people and members of minorities, was outraged.

The Pride UK account sent X a clear message: “Dear LGBT+ members… Please refrain from streaming any Nicki Minaj music. She is not our friend #boycottnickiminajThe post has been viewed more than 1.8 million times and garnered more than 20,000 likes.

Many fans denounced the artist’s betrayal, while others accused her of hypocrisy, noting that Nicki Minaj is herself an undocumented immigrant with a black and queer fan base. A petition for his deportation to Trinidad and Tobago, his home country, had gathered more than 79,000 signatures in early January.

A radical change from the past

The artist’s political change contrasts sharply with her previous positions. During Trump’s first term, she often criticized the administration’s policy, especially on immigration. In 2018, on Instagram, Nicki Minaj wrote: “I came to this country as an illegal immigrant at the age of 5. please stop this”referring to the forced separation of families.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, the artist has questioned the safety of vaccines and joined the anti-vaccination movement. Following Trump’s re-election, Nicki Minaj has repeatedly voiced her support for the White House.

JD Vance, close to the Trump administration, publicly hailed her on December 11, 2025, writing on X: “Nicki > Cardi”referring to her rivalry with Democratic supporter Cardi B, and later praising her performance in Phoenix.

In the face of the controversy, Nicki Minaj continued to assert her support for the Trump administration by sharing pro-Vance memes. Harassed online, the artist deactivated her Instagram account, followed by 227 million people.

Other pro-Trump rappers

Nicki Minaj isn’t the only figure in American rap to publicly support Trump. Lil Wayne showed his support for the Republican as early as October 2020, and a few months later he was pardoned by the president, facing up to ten years in prison in a gun possession case.
