Interim Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu accused the PSD leader, Sorin Grindeanu, of endangering the European funds from the PNRR, after he stated that the social democrats might not vote on the outstanding projects from the Government. The official claims that such a decision would affect investment in hospitals, schools and infrastructure.
In a post published on Facebook, Oana Gheorghiu stated that the PSD leader’s reaction came after the meeting at the Cotroceni Palace.
“Mr. Grindeanu left Cotroceni angry. So angry, that he threatened a Government with limited powers to reform: not to list companies, not to digitize, repeating, once again, the same stories that he has been telling for months. Because this happens every time when his plans do not work out: the narrative of “we are selling our country” is reactivated. But the truly remarkable part is only now coming”wrote Oana Gheorghiu, on FB.
It claims that the position expressed by the PSD leader risks affecting Romania’s access to European funds from the PNRR, necessary for the financing of major investments.
“Mr. Grindeanu threatens that he will not vote for the laws on which the European funds from PNRR depend. That is exactly the money that should go to hospitals, schools, infrastructure, to people. To block the reform is a political choice. But to also block Romania’s European money, just to protect your interests, that is quite an achievement. Well done, Mr. Grindeanu. You are becoming, step by step, a manual of “not to do” in Romanian politics”. said Oana Gheorghiu.
He also emphasized that the Executive intends to continue the reforms undertaken through the PNRR and to attract European funds. “We remain on the same simple position, which we repeat tirelessly: we do everything we can to continue the reform, stop waste and attract European funds. Not for a party. For the country”, the acting deputy prime minister sent.
At the end of the message, Oana Gheorghiu launched a question addressed to the PSD leadership.
“And the question remains the same and still awaits an answer: does PSD really want to reform Romania? Does PSD really want prosperity for Romanians?”, concluded this.
