Oana Gheorghiu, on the development of the country: “If we team up and give a vibe of involvement and real desire, things can be changed”

Romania has made important progress, but there are local communities that have remained behind and that, if they are not supported, hinder the overall development of the country, said Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu, on Wednesday, at the conference “RBL Romanian Capital 360°”.

“I think Romania has grown a lot. We have to look at Romania as a place where we are doing well, it has grown a lot, but there are a lot of local communities that have lagged far behind and I think that if we don’t lift them up we can’t grow higher. From now on, they are pulling us down.” said Gheorghiu.

The deputy prime minister emphasized that regaining trust between citizens and institutions and digitization as a country project are among his main objectives.

“It is absolutely necessary to do this, and this can be done by opening a dialogue with the citizens. People do not feel listened to, they do not feel heard, they feel that they are only made to pay. They are charged taxes, their income is cut, they do not feel that their voice is heard. This is one of the objectives I have: to have this dialogue with the citizens and with the business environment, to find out the real problems they are facing”. explained the deputy prime minister, according to Agerpres.

Gheorghiu also stated that many of the existing problems stem from the bad application of the legislation, and not from the legislation itself. She advocated a reform of the implementation of laws, as well as the digitization of services, which should be a tool to simplify the lives of citizens and companies, and not an end in itself.

“Digitalization should not be an objective in itself. It is a tool to simplify the life of companies and the citizen, in these terms we must think about it. And on digitalization we had various meetings and got more information. Yesterday I was talking about the Greek model of digitalization, in which, somehow, it was started from scratch, but a single entity was established that will do this. I think this is a model worthy of following. (…) This is the objective I have in the next period – to bring everyone to the table and establish a single one who will have the leadership of this country project. It should become a country project, but, I repeat, not the digitization itself, but the simplification of our lives, of each of us”. added George.

The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized that the involvement of the Presidency will be essential to regain the trust of the citizens and reach the communities that have been left behind. She called on entrepreneurs, experts and citizens to contribute to this effort:

“I repeat the call, the request, for people to come along, because if we make a team – and we don’t have to be 100 people – if we make a team and give this vibe of involvement and real desire to change things, I really believe that some things can be changed.”

More than 200 entrepreneurs, business leaders and experts participate in the 6th edition of the Romanian Capital RBL event, organized by the Romanian Business Leaders Foundation, which explores the eight forms of capital essential for a modern economy: sports, cultural, social, artistic, defense, symbolic, human and financial.
