Teodor Paleologu, professor and former Minister of Culture, mocked George Simion, the leader, AUR, after the formation announced that it wanted the authorities to declare the year 2026 as “The Year of America in Romania”“in the context of the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America”.
According to a press release sent by the AUR, the year 2026 represents “a historic moment of global importance”, in which the USA marks 250 years of existence as a state built on values such as freedom, sovereignty, democracy, faith and freedom of expression, considered by the AUR to be essential for the future of Europe and Romania.
AUR also invokes the determining role of the United States in the global security architecture, emphasizing the influence of American leadership on the international scene and the relationship with the European Union.
“Under the leadership of President Donald Trump, considered in 2026 the most important global political leader, the American influence was felt both on the international stage and in the relationship with the European Union. The political, strategic and economic decisions of the American administration had a direct impact on the geopolitical direction of Europe, on the security of the continent and on the defense of democratic values in an increasingly unstable international context”. AUR representatives explain.
AUR argues that major foreign and security policy decisions must be consulted with Washington and proposes that 2026 be declared the “Year of America in Romania”, to strengthen the strategic partnership and cultural, educational and economic cooperation.
The formation announces that, regardless of the decision of the authorities, it will mark 2026 as “The Year of the USA in Romania” through its own events and public initiatives.

On Saturday, Teodor Paleologu shared a photo mocking the party’s initiative. In the picture, Simion appears kneeling and kissing the foot of the US president
““Green Romanians”, but with a touch of servants…”, is the message sent by the former minister.
