According to the survey data, Marcel Ciolacu, the PSD leader, is in the first position in the race for Cotroceni, with 27.1% of voting intentions, followed by Nicolae Ciucă, the PNL leader, who would get 17.7%.
Following Ciolacu and Ciucă, in third and fourth place, are Elena Lasconi, the USR candidate, with 14.3%, and George Simion, the AUR leader, with 11.9%. Further in the ranking, Mircea Geoană and Călin Georgescu are with modest percentages of 7.6% and 5.8%, respectively, while Cristian Diaconescu, former foreign minister, obtains only 4.9% of voting intentions.
These data suggest a first round with a fairly balanced competition, with Ciolacu and Ciucă as favorites to reach the final election, while the other candidates will have to build a strong campaign to win the support of voters.
In terms of electoral preferences for the December 1, 2024 parliamentary elections, the PSD is in first place with 35% of voting intentions, while the PNL is in second place with 21.6%. USR, although a considerable distance away, has 16.1% and AUR gets 12.4%. UDMR is in fifth place, with 6.7%, and the new SOS Romania party registers 3.3%.
This distribution shows a significant difference between the two big parties – PSD and PNL – and the other political formations, and the voting trends suggest a stabilization of electoral options, with a clear consolidation of PSD’s position at the national level.
The survey was carried out on a sample of 1,157 people, all with the right to vote and permanent residence in Romania. Persons abroad and those institutionalized (in prisons, hospitals, military units, etc.) were excluded from the study. The margin of error of the survey is ±2.9%, and the structure of the sample reflects the socio-demographic distribution of the Romanian population, weighted by the level of schooling.
