Daniel Funeriu, former Minister of Education in the Boc II government, decided to run independently, after his name was initially transported on the list of the ruling coalition for the May 4.

At the beginning of December, Daniel Funeriu launched a public question on Facebook, asking people’s opinion about who should run for future presidential elections. At the same time, he suggested that a leader capable of addressing not only the economic, but also the social and political needs of the country is needed, later announcing his intention to run for independently.

However, the variant of his candidacy appeared initially among the names conveyed regarding the common candidate of the coalition, who, in the end, decided to go in elections with Crin Antonescu.

With the idea of ​​the candidacy, Funeriu promised, in January, a record budget for defense and reintroducing the compulsory military internship for boys.

Also in January he revealed that he wants to reach the second round with Nicușor Dan: “Our country I wish a presidential final between two smart guys, who represented Romania at the science Olympics: a final between Nicușor and me. He will get a derivative, I a Pinacoic transposition. ”

Training

As a chemist profession, Daniel Funeriu obtained in 1999 the scientific title of doctor in chemistry at the University of Strasbourg under the guidance of JM Lehn, a Nobel laureate.

A period of activity was spent as a researcher at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, and the National Institute of Science and Advanced Industrial Technologies in Amagasaki, Japan. Since 2006, he continued his activity at the Technical University of Munich.

Between 2012 and 2014 he was a counselor with minister of the President of Romania. Before joining the team of High Councilors of the EU in the Republic of Moldova, he also worked as a researcher at the Charles Sadron Institute in France, his presentation on the EU page shows.

Political career

In 2007 he ran from the PLD for the European Parliamentary elections, the first uneligible position. However, he arrived later in 2008 in the European Parliament, but he did not have a full term. In 2009, after the PDL merger with PLD, he applied again, but this time from position 14, so he did not enter.

On December 23, 2009, with the installation of the Boc II government, he was appointed Minister of Education, a position in which he remained until 2012. He noted in this position by changing the laws of education, where among the important reforms in education.

What wealth does it have

Funeriu has in the declaration of wealth two apartments in Timisoara, of 124 sqm., Respectively 55 sqm, a house in Germany of 230 sqm. with a courtyard of 838 sqm., but also two agricultural land in large Timiş county – 30.5 hectares and 19.5 hectares.

Funeriu has five cars: Jaguar XJ6, Jaguar S, Mazda CX5, Audi A6 and a Renault Twingo. In the declaration of wealth, there is also a collection of jewelry valued at 15,000 euros, bank accounts, warehouses and investment funds of about 360,000 euros and 1.3 million years.

In the last year he reported revenues of 138,000 euros from consulting at Gopa Pace, 56,000 lei from the University of Bucharest, 20,000 lei from Consulting to Infomart, 8,700 euros from consulting to Oriensys, plus 25,000 lei representing land lease.

It also has actions at more companies totaling 12,600, in France and Switzerland.

Chances in the presidential race

According to the latest surveys, published after the candidates are established, Daniel Funeriu would not be able to obtain 3% in the first round, thus not knowing the percentage necessary to settle the expenses.

In one of the surveys it is quoted by 1%, being 6th in classamoent.
