The PSD announced on Tuesday, July 14, that it will not vote on bills that serve only party interests, without any connection to the national interest, in the name of “saving European money” from PNRR or SAFE.
“PSD is in the opposition and will act as an opposition party. It will no longer accept any political compromise that affects the PSD electorate and Romanian society as a whole”, sends the Social Democratic Party in a statement.
The PSD states that it will remain open to dialogue “for the installation of a functional government as quickly as possible, in the interest of Romania”, but will not support “unconditionally none of the actions of the current government dismissed.”
“We will not accept legislative improvisations! We will not pass any law sent by the Government at the last minute without giving Parliament a reasonable period of real debate.
In order to save European money, the Government has the obligation to stop violating its own deadlines and to prepare the draft laws in a timely manner, to allow the parliamentary debate and the real consultation with the social partners”, add the quoted source.
PSD also warns that it will not vote on laws “in which amendments or observations are not taken into account” social democrats.
“It is up to the Government to find its majority in order to pass its projects through Parliament. And if it needs the PSD vote, it will have to accept the conditions set by the PSD to protect the national interests and the Romanian citizens.”
PSD: “We will not vote for a salary law, tailored according to the narrow political vision of the current prime minister”
The PSD says it will support the projects necessary to attract European funds, but will strictly analyze every provision of the Government to ensure that it does not affect the interests of the citizens.
“We will not allow the deposed government, in the name of “saving European money” from PNRR or SAFE, to slip into the draft laws provisions that serve only their own party interests, without any connection to the national interest.
We will not vote for a wage law, tailored according to the narrow political vision of the current dismissed prime minister, which, instead of solving the imbalance in the budget system, could bring more inequity in Romanian society.
We will not vote for an Integrity Law for public offices, through which the incompatibilists in the USR seek to fence off the institutions that exposed the integrity problems at the top of their own party.
We will not vote for any normative act that would allow the sale of Romania’s strategic companies, at prices of nothing, on short lists, established in secret, without public consultation and without any benefit for our country”. warns the party.
Nicușor Dan: “I am optimistic that we will end up passing the PNRR package”
Recently, PSD president Sorin Grindeanu warned that PSD intends to block the laws necessary to meet the milestones of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).
President Nicușor Dan believes that the position expressed by the PSD leader is part of the political negotiations, which makes him confident that, in the end, PSD, on the one hand, and PNL-USR, on the other, will reach an agreement on this issue.
“It is Mr. Grindeanu’s way of saying that, one: he is not part of this government and, two: that he wants to negotiate on these packages of laws. I am optimistic that, following discussions and negotiations, which are the essence of politics, we will end up passing the PNRR package”, stated the president.
Nicușor Dan declared himself optimistic that the laws necessary to continue the PNRR will be adopted by the Parliament, arguing that the parties have demonstrated that they can collaborate on important projects for Romania, such as SAFE, the PNRR and the accession to the OECD, despite the political tensions and the transition of the PSD to the opposition.
