The Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, said that he will appear in Parliament on Monday both at the debate of the simple motion submitted by the opposition against him, and at the “Government Hour”, initiated by the USR, where he is called to give explanations in the context of the journalistic investigation carried out by the Recorder.
Invited to Antena 3 on Friday evening, the minister stated that he respects the role of the Parliament and considers it natural to respond to all criticisms leveled at him. “I respect the Parliament of Romania and I will present myself to discuss both coordinates. I will respond to the criticisms of the simple motion with precise, concrete and detailed elements, showing what the Ministry of Justice did during the period in which I led it“, declared Radu Marinescu.
He stated that the document submitted by AUR recognizes his professionalism and character, but criticizes his lack of action, an accusation he says he will combat with clear examples from the ministry’s activity.
The Minister of Justice listed among the priorities of his mandate the elaboration of the strategy for the development of the judicial system, the strategy regarding the fight against recidivism, as well as the national anti-corruption strategy. He also emphasized the importance of digitalization reforms.
“We are managing an essential milestone for the complete digitization of justice. From 2026, Romania will have a national electronic file and an electronic integral circuit of legal information, which will significantly reduce the duration of trials and the number of cases before the courts”Marinescu also said.
Asked if digitization will affect the principle of random allocation of files to court panels, the minister rejected this possibility. “Random allocation is mandatory and a guarantee of due process”he specified.
AUR announced on Wednesday the submission of two simple motions: one against the Minister of the Interior, Cătălin Predoiu, in the Senate, and one against the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu, in the Chamber of Deputies. The motion on Justice bears the title “Justice for Romania. Justice must truly become a public service at the service of Romanians.”
At the same time, USR summoned the Minister of Justice to “Government Hour”, demanding an explanation of how criminal cases of politically connected defendants end up being delayed until the statute of limitations, a subject recently covered in a Recorder investigation.
