Romanians from two counties are argued for Via Transilvanica. “Fudulation and envy, rarely encountered than in Maramureși”

Via Transilvanica crosses 1,400 kilometers in Romania, but bypass Maramureș county, several locals complain, who claim that the extremely popular tourist route should have started from their county and not from Suceava county.

Via Transilvanica, the tourist and cultural route that crosses the Carpathian Mountains, over 1,400 kilometers has been shown a successful tourist project of Romania for recent years. The hiking route has become more well -known, being sought by many foreign tourists who want to discover the beauties of the country.

Via Transilvanica was launched in 2018 and finalized as a tourist route in 2022, when its last sectors were arranged, in Hunedoara and Alba counties.

It connects two emblematic places for the history of Romania, Putna and Drobeta-Turnu Severin Monastery, crossing ten counties: Suceava, Bistriţa-Năsăud, Mureş, Harghita, Braşov, Sibiu, Alba, Hunedoara, Caraş-Severin and Mehedinti.

“Via Transilvanica unites not only ten counties that go through, but also the whole ethnic, cultural, historical or geographical diversity of Transylvania and the whole country and, last but not least, all who go through this route”informs Tășuleasa Social, the non -governmental organization that carried out the project.

Many Romanians enjoyed the popularity of the hiking route, or as simple travelers through the places proposed by its organizers, or because they live in the places crossed by Via Transilvanica. For other Romanians, the choice of the route has become a reason for dissatisfaction.

Many locals from Maramureș have complained on the social networks that they “were bypassed” by Via Transilvanica, although the county in the north of Romania are among the bidding places in tourist and cultural attractions. The tone of the debate gave a message published on Facebook, who answered hundreds of people.

“Maramureș is increasingly sinking in a harmful insulation for tourism. In addition to the fact that it is bypassed by the highway projects in the next few years, Maramureș is also absent from the via Transilvanica route. With this route of over 1,400 kilometers, tourists will be able to discover a significant part of Romania’s authentic beauties. Although the route has an important traditional-historical component, and Maramureș is often considered “the heart of living traditions”, it is missing “, inform the Facebook page “My Maramureșul”.

Not the same thing happens with Suceava County, which is not even in Transylvania, but it is a starting point in the north of the country, notes the authors of the post.

“Suceava will benefit from such an important visibility and many tourists attracted by this route. Why does the Transylvanian life have no departure point from North to Maramureș to Borșa, Vișeu de Sus, Bârsana, Sighet or Săpânța?”, Asks the authors of the message.

Although it was bypassed by the highway network in Romania and is 600 kilometers from the Capital, Maramureș is a bidder in tourist attractions, and the guests of the county in the northwest of Romania and several traditional villages and unique wood churches, historical cities and numerous monuments of nature.

Maramureș, requested on Via Transilvanica

Some Romanians were disturbed by the fact that Maramureș was bypassed by Via Transilvanica.

“Maramureș should not be isolated. He needs a highway in order to develop touristically, says another Romanian ”said one of them.

Without infrastructure, at least one express road in the county with customs and country we cannot speak of development in the next decades, one that is at a level and below, unfortunately, in the historical Maramureș, writes another local.

“A via Moldavica could be made, a route that starts from Maramures and passes through Moldova. Moldova is, however, the daughter of Maramureș, being founded by the Romanian voivodes from Maramureș, Dragoș and Bogdan. Bessarabia can be included. But there is a need for people to do such projects ”believes another Romanian.

Maramureș cannot be isolated! It is a unique area where the traditions are still preserved and the inhabitants are hard -working and beautiful people, says another local.

“Whether or not you will put the Transylvanian via terminals in Maramureș I will still visit it. As in Maramureș it is not in half of the country, cheerful, warm people, with a good word, fresh, traditional food ”, says a Romanian from the historical region of Banat.

Insulation or not, Maramureș is a record after record for the number of tourists and nights, another Romanian says.

“I have never had more visitors in history than in 2023 and 2024. At this moment in Maramureș we have 1,100 accommodation spaces”, support it.

“If you did not visit Maramures you have lived for nothing”another local is of opinion.

Maramureșeni ironized by Suceveni

Other Romanians were disturbed, on the other hand, by the complaint of those in Maramureș. In Maramureș everything is commercial, says one of them, who adds that he has found in his county a lot of “kitsch”.

“We discovered modern villas and next to them, timid, traditional houses (which have not yet been demolished), a talmeș-Balmeș architectural. Horinca is good, but comparable to Jinars from Zalău, Oradea and Alba. The food, good, but overshadowed by the Bucovina. Only the music remained untouched, beautiful ”writes a Romanian.

The traditional Maramureș, the authentic one, we do not find it everywhere, is a local. “He must be sought, unfortunately. And if you don’t know where, bad luck. The charm of yesteryear is still preserving today, especially the people, who eventually sanctify the place. In their midst, the former Maramureș is hidden, that soul of the place that made known in the four countries. You cannot ask all the young people to be shoeed with opinions for a whole day. Have you ever wondered to see how “comfortable” they are? “writes one.

Other Romanians complain that Suceava is unfairly mentioned by those who complain that Maramureș is not on Via Transilvanica.

“Logically, the Moldovans are worth nothing … Arges, the forehead”, writes one of them.

Maramureș will never have as many tourists as Bucovina has, the tourist objectives are incomparable, especially numerically, another Romanian believes.

“No one stops you from linked Maramureș to Via Transilvanica. Or would you like to take the terminals from Suceava to take them to Maramureș? ”he writes.

“Maybe you want the point in the South also Maramureș to be. If you do not take all the tourism, you from Transylvania … would you crack a vein?“Says another.

“A fudula and envy rarely encountered in Maramureși. You gave yourself the left in the law, with your Maramureș ”, another Romanian believes.

Maramureș is a collection of “traditional” aberrations, says another Romanian.

“Well in Maramureș where to go? To step on your taf and ATVs? It is probably harder to steal wood from the forest if there are tourists there. See only new houses, made of concrete, with tiles and flour and stainless steel railings. To shoot you poachers? Find Chinese everywhere? ”he asks, ironically.

“Stop you anymore. They have the most expensive accommodations in the country, not just holidays. Many locals work in the West and have only learned to raise large, hideous houses, without preserving the local tradition. Moldovans know how to do tourism for anyone, you do tourism only for your Morosans, gone abroad, with huge prices ”says another Romanian.

In Transylvania and Moldova I found several authentic places ”writes another.

“You have some prices, that we come with the water from home and the sandwich in the bag,” says another Internet.

“Do Via Maramureș, do not wait for others to do …”recommend another Romanian.

“What Transylvanian life is a route that bypasses the West?”another Romanian asks.

“Via Transilvanica is not a project of the Romanian state, so it can start, pass and stop where the organizers think it is the most useful. If Maramureș wants, it can organize a route that starts and travels Maramureș and joins at one point with Via Transilvanica. It would really be indicated ”another Romanian concludes.

Tourist attacks in Maramureș

Baia Mare, the medieval city that became one of the great industrial centers of the 20th century, is the city residence of Mramureș county.

Along with Baia Mare, the most sought after travel destinations of Maramureș are the Sighetul Marmaiei – the locality “where the map in CUI” known for the former Stalinist prison in which the personalities convicted by the communist regime and for the Maramureş Village Museum, ended.

Also here is the dig – the famous locality for the “Merry Cemetery”, the Vișeul de Sus – crossed by the moccăniţa on Valea Vaser and Borșa – the mountain resort prepared at the end of the 1930s to host the first winter sports.

Maramureș draws through the rich art of wood processing, visible in the appearance of traditional houses in its villages and in the old wooden churches, eight of them being included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage.

The village of Breb in Maramureș is famous because of its architecture and traditions kept by the locals, but also as a place that hosted King Charles, of Great Britain.

The Maramureş clothing art, the ancient traditions kept by the locals and the popular songs of Maramures have also increased the charm of the historical land in the north of Romania.

“His ancient land and mastered by the Dacians smells of beech and fir, white wood and gold stone, apples and doina sung in dusk, among the ridges of customs and tongue. It is a huge wooden gate carved by anonymous craftsmen, the gate of Romanian beauty and purity, preserving the purest mandate of Romanian spirituality ”, said publicist Mircea Micu.
