The winter school vacation is over, and students across the country return to classes on Thursday, January 8, 2026. With the resumption of school, Module 3 of the 2025–2026 school year structure also begins.
The winter vacation lasted 18 days and started on Saturday, December 20, 2025. The return to the banks marks the entry into the third course module, which has a variable duration, depending on the decisions of the county school inspectorates regarding the week “School differently”.
By default, Module 3 runs between:
- January 8 and February 6, 2026, in some counties,
- 8 January and 13 February 2026,
- or until February 20, 2026, depending on the local calendar.
Completion of this module is followed by the mobile winter holiday, also known as the intersemester or ski holiday, scheduled between February and March 2026. This gives students a welcome break in the cold season, when many families choose mini-vacations or mountain activities.
What holidays do students still have in the 2025–2026 school year
By the end of the school year, students will benefit from more rest periods, the module structure being designed to balance study time with recovery time.
The remaining holidays are:
- The mobile winter vacation, in February 2026 – a week established at the county level, immediately after Module 3;
- Spring Break (Easter) – between Saturday, April 4 and Tuesday, April 14, 2026;
- Summer vacation – starts Saturday 20 June 2026 and ends Sunday 6 September 2026.
In total, the 2025–2026 school year is organized into five course modules and five holidays, a structure designed to reduce student fatigue and stress, especially in primary and secondary school.
In addition to these holidays, students will also benefit from legal days off that can extend the weekends, such as the Day of the Union of the Romanian Principalities, celebrated on January 24.
When the school year ends
The 2025–2026 school year ends on Friday 19 June 2026 with the completion of Module 5. This is when the summer holidays begin.
For final classes, the calendar is slightly different:
- 8th grade students finish their courses earlier, to prepare for the National Assessment;
- 12th and 13th grade students have a program adapted to the Baccalaureate exam.
For most students, the total duration of the school year is 36 weeks of classes, according to the structure approved by the Ministry of Education.
