The courses were suspended on Wednesday in several counties and in Bucharest, as a result of the Red Code warnings issued by the National Meteorological Administration (ANM). Asked about the problems in the transport of students by bus, the minister told Digi24: “The decision was in the five counties to suspend the physical presence of children in the school units, so they were not taken to schools. At the same time, in the five counties the decision was to suspend the educational activity, that is, the courses, following the hours to be recovered in the coming weeks”.

Daniel David added that in Bucharest, at the request of the Inspectorate, “”I agreed that those school units that want, who have the infrastructure, which announces in advance, to try to do some activities online. I do not have until this hour how many school units in Bucharest had online activity ”. The official stressed that it is relevant to recover the hours “either online or in the weeks ” next.

Returning the courses on Thursday

Asked if the students can return to school on Thursday, the Minister of Education replied:
“Our institutions collaborate tightly. I personally are in direct connection with Arafat. At 3:00 pm the prohibition given by the Red Code, if nothing appears. Tomorrow We resume our educational activities in the standard version. If something happens to change, we will announce the other institutions, including the emergency committees in each county, but for now we go on this variant”.

Parents ‘reactions and authorities’ decision

The decision to suspend the courses has aroused both positive and critical reactions from parents who believe that, in some areas, the rain was not so intense and the children could have gone to school. Minister Daniel David commented: “I see in a legal context. The decision is made, not by the ministrybut by the committees for emergency situations in the respective counties and these committees work on probabilistic data offered by the experts dealing with the predictions regarding the weather on weather phenomena. Beyond this legal aspect, the safety of children is more important than the day of the educational process. ”
