The government approved, on Thursday, the Regulation on the organization and functioning of the Committee for the organization of state funerals and its composition, regulating the framework and procedure for organizing these ceremonies.

According to a press release from the Executive, the normative act regulates the way of organizing state funerals, the Regulation on the functioning of the Committee for organizing state funerals and its composition.
Also, the legal framework is being created for the approval by joint order of the procedure regarding the organization of state funerals, states the quoted source.
The government mentions that state funerals are organized in the case of the death of the President of Romania or former heads of state, and funerals with military honors are organized in the case of the death of the Presidents and former Presidents of the two Chambers of Parliament, as well as in the case of the Prime Minister or former Prime Ministers of Romania .
“For the organization of state funerals, unitary coordination is necessary, considering the involvement of several institutions with attributions in the organization of official ceremonies. The organization and operation committee is made up of representatives at the level of state secretaries or senior civil servants of the Presidential Administration, the General Secretariat of the Government, the Chancellery of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of National Defense, the State Secretariat for Religions and the Protection and Security Service“, it is stated in the Government's press release, quoted by Agerpres.
Among the former heads of state, Ion Iliescu is the oldest ex-president, being almost 94 years old (he will be in March). Emil Constantinescu, president between 1996 and 2000, is 84 years old. Traian Băsescu is the youngest former head of state, being 72 years old.
