Tragedy in Maramureș. A six-year-old girl, on vacation with her grandparents in Vișeu de Jos, lost her life after she was hit by a van loaded with construction materials, while she was cycling in the same direction as the vehicle. According to the sources, a former employee of the Romanian Police would have been behind the wheel, and after the accident he would have left the scene without the consent of the police.
According to the information provided by the Maramureș County Police Inspectorate, the accident occurred on July 3, at around 09:35, after the policemen of the Leordina Rural Police Section 4 were alerted by calling 112 regarding the occurrence of a road accident resulting in the death of one person, within the radius of Vișeu de Jos.
Police officers from the Vișeu de Sus City Police also intervened at the scene. The first checks carried out by the investigators showed that a 52-year-old man, who was driving a van, fatally injured the girl, who was traveling on a bicycle in the same direction as the vehicle.
Unfortunately, the medical team that arrived at the scene of the tragedy could not do anything to save the child’s life, having to declare her death.
“On the 3rd of July this year, around 9:35 a.m., the police officers of the Leordina Rural Police Section 4 were alerted by a single emergency call to 112 about the fact that, within the area of Vișeu de Jos, there was a road accident resulting in the death of a person”, the representatives of IPJ Maramureș sent.
According to the police, the driver was tested with the breathalyzer, the result was negative.
According to sources close to the investigation, a former employee of the Romanian Police would have been behind the wheel of the van. The information has not been officially confirmed until this moment by the authorities.
After the accident, the driver left the scene. According to Agerpres, the driver, frightened by the revolt of the people in the area, ran to the headquarters of the Vişeu de Sus City Police, where he announced the occurrence of the road accident.
“As a result of the reaction of the people present at the scene, manifested immediately after the road accident, through rioting and an aggressive attitude towards the driver, he would have left the scene of the crime and would have gone immediately to the headquarters of the Vişeu de Sus City Police, where he announced the occurrence of the road event and the reasons why he did not stay at the scene. Later, he returned to the scene, and the police performed the testing with the breathalyzer and drug test. The results of the tests were negative. The man was taken to the hospital for blood sampling. The police are continuing the investigation, under the supervision of the case prosecutor.”the spokesperson of the Maramureş County Police Inspectorate (IPJ), Mihaela Ardelean, also sent.
According to Vasiledale, the minor’s father is an officer in the NATO command in Sibiu.
The police are continuing the investigations to establish exactly all the circumstances in which the tragedy occurred and to order the necessary legal measures.
