PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan launched a new attack on the PSD, accusing the formation of seeking to return to government to regain control over state institutions, and not to solve Romania’s urgent problems.
In a post published on Facebook, Mureșan claims that the social democrats are trying to return to the governance model from the periods led by Adrian Năstase and Liviu Dragnea.
“The PSD does not aim to solve the country’s emergencies. The PSD wants to return to government only to recapture total power in the state — the government, resources and administrative levers. That is, the same as during the Năstase period or the Dragnea period”wrote the liberal.
He states that the request of the interim leader of the PSD, Sorin Grindeanu, regarding “total autonomy in governance” would aim at full control over the Executive.
According to Mureșan, PSD is trying to stop the decline in the polls by accessing government resources.
“The PSD sees itself collapsing in the polls and hopes that by seizing all the power in the state, it will be able to continue funding the party clientele, squander people’s money on populist measures, and thus save itself as a party.” claimed the MEP.
Siegfried Muresan stated that the PNL will not accept a “blank check” for the PSD and stated that the social democrats must choose between consolidating a centre-left party identity or adopting a populist discourse.
“PSD is no longer a 50% party, nor will it ever be. The reality is this: PSD has a choice between remaining a center-left party, 10-15%, or trying to adopt a populist behavior, in which case it will be swallowed by AUR. We will not make this choice for them, but we are obliged to protect the people from the instincts of the party-state.” Muresan transmitted.
