The former president of Romania, Traian Băsescu, declared, on Friday evening, that Ilie Bolojan is “a kind of Messiah” for many and is probably only thinking about his future candidacy, although it is vital for Romania to have a government with full powers.
“I’m sorry to say, for many, Mr. Bolojan is something extraordinary, like a kind of Messiah, but a politician, who also understands the state’s priorities, would not do such a thing. He probably only judges his priorities to run when he wants, but, at the moment, it is vital for Romania to have a government in its full functions, to be able to issue emergency ordinances, ordinances”said Traian Băsescu, Friday evening, on B1 TV, News writes.
He referred to the adoption of laws that are essential for PNRR.
“How do you think that a provisional government or a minority government could pass the wage law, which is an obligation in the PNRR. How does the wage law pass with a government that is not in full power?”the former president also stated.
He gave another example, referring to the equipment of the army: “Or another example – how is a mandate given for the signing of the 8.3 billion euros, money for equipping the army by a provisional government, with the interim ministers? So, I think that these people, both the PSD and the PNL, do not understand that Romania also has some priorities. We risk losing a lot of money, billions, and I think they won’t answer for this,” Basescu said.
The former president is of the opinion that political leaders should accept electoral costs, citing the 2008 economic crisis as an example.
“Sometimes, you have to take such decisions, that is, lose as a politician, and I lost. Remember when the two parties, PNL and PSD, plunged the country into crisis, in 2008, making many concessions to salaries, rights and so on, in 2010 I had to undertake, together with Prime Minister Boc, to undertake the repair, the restoration of macroeconomic balances with political costs extraordinary, but I did it. Between the national interest and your interest as a politician, you cannot put your interest first. Either we are talking about a personal interest or a party interest, by refusing to resume the discussions, it is clear that the interests of the parties are prioritized, which is not right“, Băsescu appreciated.
The parties were convened on Monday at the Cotroceni Palace by the president Nicusor Dan. He announced that the main question he will ask is: “What majority is formed?”.
