Friday, starting at 11:00 a.m., in Cluj-Napoca, the meeting of the Council of Union Representatives of the UDMR is scheduled, reports Agerpres.

On June 27, the president of UDMR, Kelemen Hunor, declared, also in Cluj-Napoca, after a CRU meeting, that the formation he leads will have a candidate in this year’s presidential elections.

“Regardless of when the presidential elections will take place, the Hungarian community in Romania will have a candidate. Hungarians must have a voice in the presidential elections”says Kelemen Hunor.

According to him, the UDMR will have its own candidate in the presidential elections because it wants to show the strength of the Hungarian community that matters and can be counted on in Romania.

“The candidate of the Hungarians will talk about the hopes and problems of the Hungarians, he will talk about the problems of society, but he will also have a message about what kind of country we want”said the president of the UDMR.

And Mircea Geoană announced his candidacy

Mircea Geoană announced his resignation from the position of Deputy Secretary General of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO), and will then communicate details about his presidential candidacy.

“Mircea served NATO for almost five years. His focus on technology and emerging security challenges has been critical to driving innovation within the Alliance. He is a true transatlanticist, and his work with partners has brought important benefits to NATO. I wish him all the best for the future,” Stoltenberg said.

Mircea Geoană is the first Romanian to hold this position and the first Deputy Secretary General from a country that joined the Alliance after the end of the Cold War.

Boris Ruge, Assistant Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Security Policy (PASP), will serve as Acting Assistant Secretary-General until a successor is appointed.
